Cleaning CDs

I just got a Sega CD game and the bottom of the disc has what looks like coffee or water stains. I'm not sure how to clean this; I'm afraid alcohol will damage the disc, for instance. What can I use? Don't suggest Goo Gone... I've heard that thing eats through plastic. D:

Also, when wiping, remember: "down the street, not across." Same motion as it implies, except this time it's not bad for you. You go in from the center out, instead of making circles as if you were reading the CD with your laser instead of a finger (this is bad). Good luck.

You could just try some water and some of the CD cleaning cloths. I know they mention liquid, you might as well start simple though.

You can always wait for somebody to show up and start telling you to put toothpaste in the pits or something ROFL

I've never needed anything stronger than my own breath (fog/condensation) to clean a CD. But definitely use a clean cloth and wipe from the center out. You could also probably use something simple like a little bit of dish soap and water.

I wouldn't normally use anything but my breath, but this looks like coffee, or at least I hope it's coffee. I want something to that can break it down before I wipe it down.

And water. Um. Tapwater here isn't exactly very ah... "safe". >_>;

This is a simple question I've had for ages. A few years back, I found a GC copy of PSO. It had what I'll just call 'gunk' on the disk, but no scratches. I grabed a can of contact cleaner thinking it should do the trick. WRONG... Contact cleaner eats plastic! There's now a nice 'frosted' look to the disk.

From a collector's standpoint, there has to be a touchfree way to remove ocational fingerprints, grime, or in this case coffee stains. I do not want to wipe/rub the disk for fear of making new scratches cd cloth or not. Condition is everything.

I've used hand soap and water before, then rinse and pat dry with a cotton towel, can't get much cleaner than that, doesnt seem to scratch either. That's just the way that I do it. You can also try some of that spray you use to clean glasses/lenses, and then use a micro fiber lense cloth, heard that works but never tried it.
