There is a new prototype soon to be released (they have almost met their donation amount) from Hidden Palace. You can check it out here:

The title is still a secret, but in my opinion any Saturn release is a good thing :)

Bribes to get them to release something that isn't theirs to be taking money for releasing?
No thanks, especially when they won't even reveal what it is that we're being asked to bribe them for.

lol. I believe that purchasing prototypes costs money. Not everything in life is free :-/

Maybe I'm just being pessimistic, but I'd venture to guess that it's being kept secret because it's probably some lame game that few would be interested in playing. You can probably get a lot more cash with people dreaming that it's some awesome action game or something when in actuality it's really some half-finished sports game. I mean, I'm all for the preservation of any prototypes, but I wouldn't put money towards the dumping of a mystery game.

That, or they dont want to get in trouble for releasing it, until after its already released.

I'd certainly donate money to a individual in the community to help subsidize their efforts, if they were well known and I was satisified it would be preserved and openly released. I've seen that happen in other communities (AtariAge), where a individual collected donations in order to fund a purchase a prototype to preserve it and release it.
But something about donating after the fact to get the individual to release it rubs me the wrong way. I'd rather be approached when they're trying to raise the funds to make a purchase. The way this is done, I feel more like I'd just be subsidizing their prototype collecting hobby...
In the manner this went down, I feel more like I'd just be paying someone to release something that isn't even theirs to be profiting from in the first place. They already have the physical prototype purchased and in their possession, so it's not like I'm paying to help preserve this small piece of the industry's history.
That they don't even tell what it is, makes it even more shady.
I'll pay to save something, but not after the fact.

Personally, my guess is that it's Capcom's "Werewolf the Apocalypse". We should know soon, as the donation is almost met.
The donations are definately voluntary, & if you don't feel right about it just wait & see what the game is first. Nothing wrong with that.
I know that the last game Hidden Palace released for Saturn was Judgement Force (Fighting Force). Even though only a few levels were playable, what was there played (& looked) like a final release. I am very hopeful about this new release.

I wish it was a rendition of what Sonic Xtreme could have been, since some people were talking about working on it. But I doubt it due to its situation.

Yeah, at first I was thinking that as well but then I read the fine print that said it was a totally unreleased game, and Sonic X-treme already has that alpha build out.
Unless it were the fish-eye lens style of Sonic X-treme, but even still I doubt it.

Hasnt that been released already on one of the Lost & Found discs that came out a while ago?

There were 3 Lost & Found releases. None of them contained Capcom's Werewolf game. Maybe you are thinking of Deep Fear?

There's actually no build of that version in existence for Saturn. They were developing it on PC, with the intent of porting to Saturn immediately after.
It could very well be Werewolf, but it could just as easily be Return Fire, Fox Hunt, Syndicate Wars, Burn Cycle, etc.

Actually, Return Fire has already been released. It's not an early beta, either. I think it is a nearly complete version. This was released a while ago.

If it helps put your mind at ease, the Saturn prototype they are releasing is a game which never saw release on ANY system. That is what is stated at Hidden Palace, anyway.
I'm staying with my original guess. I could be wrong, though...

Well Damn!
There goes my hope for this to be the Saturn build of Lagacy of Kain: Blood Omen. I still can't believe this game hasn't surfaced.
I'm curious though as to what game this could be. There are so many unreleased Saturn games. I could see the Saturn being like the Atari 2600 and another 15 years from now people will still be uncovering Betas for it.

I'm going to have to with Leo on this one: right now isn't the time to ask people to pay for something when they don't know what it is and aren't going to be able to own it--especially over five hundred dollars for something that's not even complete. I can think of plenty of reasons not to tell us what game it is, and none of them sound good.
But who knows? Maybe it's won't be so bad.

I think that Legacy of Kain was completed, too (or nearly complete). I would love to see that game released some day. And also Waterworld (which was 100% completed).
Unfortunately, this game won't be either of those, but hopefully its still something good.

Is he actually making discs to send out, or does he want $550 to upload an ISO?

Besides Sonic X-Treme (and the 2 examples listed below), are there any other games that were in development by Sega that didn't see the light of day for the Saturn?
I remember seeing footage of a Clockwork Knight 3 beta, so it's probably not that based on what's being said. I've also read that Sega was working on an Eternal Champions game but that it got scrapped quickly to focus on Virtua Fighter.
The poster in the link mentions that this game got some press before being cancelled, and I'm having a hard time getting past Sonic X-Treme in terms of Saturn vaporware (despite watching the X-Treme demos).

Eternal Champions: The Final Chapter would certainly be be a welcome surprise!
One of the main reasons that I got a Saturn was for the Eternal Champions game. I remember back in '95 or '96, Fox was running a sweepstakes where you could win a Sega Saturn and the commercial showed some game footage and mixed in between various games, were a few seconds of footage of the Eternal Champions game.
It showed Shadow fighting some big robot guy that I thought resembled Marvel's Ultron. I have never seen screen shots or footage of the game since. I wish I had recorded it. :(
There is also Saturn Shenmue. I would love to see a playable Beta for that.
Also wasn't Warp's D2 in development for the Saturn for a short while before jumping to the DC? If I remember correctly, Enemy Zero had a video that showed a few clips from the Saturn build of D2.

I'm with all the people who think it's nuts to put money toward a complete unknown. Now, if he came out and promised it wasn't a sports game, or a shitty licensed title, that would be one thing...

Am I an oracle, or what? At last the Saturn prototype has been released! I had guessed correctly, and it is indeed the Capcom's Werewolf game. :)
