The PlayStation 1 is officially 15 years old via it's original Japanese launch.

A system that has changed my life forever, from a gamer, collector, sporadic 15 minutes of famer point of view, she will always be the one closest to my heart.

So many of today's modern franchises started out (or first ported to) on the PlayStation:

- Silent Hill
- Resident Evil
- Crash Bandicoot
- Spyro the Dragon
- Medal of Honor (...and pc...)
- Twisted Metal
- Warhawk
- Syphon Filter
- Damn near every musical game, thanks to Konami's Bemani import side.
- Final Fantasy Tactics
- Tekken
- Ridge Racer
- Soul Edge / Blade

...and so many more.

A few years back I wrote an article on the launch day activities of the original PlayStation, comparing it to the PS3's then launch. Enjoy the golden era...

I've been playing Gran Turismo a bit off and on lately, and I should revisit the original Syphon Filter (plus the first of the sequels, which I also have).

Tekken and Soul Edge were arcade games first, but the PSX was still way out in front with franchises. Sony never had to try to carry the system all by themselves, and that ended up being a good thing.

I've also been trying to play Konami's Gungage, but I'd have to set up ePSXe to get that one working...the other emulators don't seem to like it.

I still really love that PlayStation US launch article. I always refer people to it to give them a clearer idea of what the very early days of the PlayStation were like.

Anyway, happy birthday, PlayStation. :) I guess this means the King's Field series is about to hit 15 too since the Japanese-exclusive original came out very shortly after launch I believe. I'm one of few people that would care, though, haha.

I never had a PSX until a little more than a n year ago. Back in the day, I only played it at my friends'. I remember how amazed I was about the graphics, the games...not only the whole 3D stuff, but what it was able to do with 2d graphcis (I love Skullmonkeys to this day!). Ocasinally I'd borrow one from a friend...now THOSE were good weekends!

Now that I have my own (a PSOne), I'm having a blast. Games like Road Rash 3D, Silent Hill, Castlevania SOTN... it's really a great system. Happy Birthday, you old grey bastard (actually, mine is white, but you get it!)! It's nice having you around!!

P.S.: 15 years?!? Shit, I'm getting old...

I remember the first time I got this system. I actually didn't have any games but the demo that it came with a bunch of games. I don't know if the FF7 demo was a pack in as well, but whatever, I know I didn't get it and I wanted that one. I did eventually play the demo, which came with videos of SaGa Frontier and FFTactics and a demo of FF7 and Bushido Blade(I think. This could be a different demo.) The demo I got with my PSX had Jumping Flash and Battle Arena Toshinden on it.

One thing I do kind of miss in this generation is demo discs. Sure they have game demos that you can play certain games, but I miss the Playstation Underground demo releases that had quite a few games and videos on each release. Even though it wasn't a new game, it just felt great getting one of those demo discs with a ton of content on there(demos, movies, advertisements, etc.)

I forget, did Resident Evil come out on the PS1 or Saturn first? I knew it was on both but couldnt remember which was released first.

15 years? Guess it realy does show my age. I still remember when it was released thinking FFVII was coming and it'd be the best game ever released in the series. Well, we got the Persona series out of it.

It was on PS1 first and ported to Saturn later.

I remeber I went to a place called video gamesters and bought the japanese system 1 extra contoller and tekken for 750.00. It was unbelivable at the time. So many great memories just waiting for the next big graphical game.
