Does Gamecube Game Boy Player have similar timing problems as Super Game Boy?

Never had issues with either. If you have a wii and it is modded, you can DL the roms for the games you own (legal since you own the games) and play them on there

The GB Player has always seemed correct to me.

By the way, Hori made a pretty decent classic-style pad which will come in handy for games on the Player. Much better than going analog or trying to deal with the GC's terrible d-pad.

The Super Game Boy runs games approximately 5% faster than the original handheld. Rather or not this holds true in later hardware releases that included Game Boy support (Game Boy Player, Game Boy Color, and various GBA releases), and the redesigned Game Boy Pocket, I don't know.

It's nothing that can be percieved and is only a concern if you're attempting speed runs.

The Super Game Boy will only play black GBC cartridges. Dedicated GBC releases in clear cartridge cases will not function on it.

as i understood it, the gameboy player was simply a gameboy advance in of itself. the cube only relayed the video data to the tv and provided power.

but i have noticed a slight input lag on the gameboy player, the longer controller cord may have something to do with that

So you weren't talking then about how the Super Game Boy's processor runs games slightly faster than the original handheld? Because his reply didn't have anything to do with if the Game Boy Player does or doesn't have that flaw.

What timing problem do you think the Super Game Boy has if it isn't what I mentioned? I'm unaware of any other issues with it.

That is what I was talking about, the running faster thing.

Wikipedia says that there are some compatibility problems but it's stuff that makes sense anyway (rumble games, motion sensors, etc)

That site is using "GBP" to refer to the Game Boy Pocket. A redesign of the original handheld that reduced it's size and weight. Not the Game Boy Player attachment for the Game Cube.

You know, that's an excellent point. It was just what I was told, though not directly from the person that did this test.

I'll see if I can't contact this individual to get a first hand confirmation on just what he means by "GBP", and see if he can't edit this to be clearer.

Edit - That was quick, they've confirmed my source was incorrect and that indeed was the Game Boy Player being talked about. So feel free to buy the Game Boy Player if you're concerned about 100% accurate speed at which it plays Game Boy games.

They both play fine if you ask me. I don't know much about the processor to either of them or any of that but I personally haven't ever had a problem with lag on one or the other. My game boy player has always been great and plays games like a gem.

I don't see anything about timing issues. I'd assume there are no issues. I haven't noticed anything in my years of using it.

That timing issue might explain why the original Super Game Boy didn't have a link cable connector (cost being a more likely explanation). The Super Game Boy 2 may have corrected the issue since seems to work fine in multiplayer when connected to Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket, GBC, GBA, or a Game Boy Player.
