I was checking out some genesis vids on you tube and came across some interesting things called the sega genesis firecore console and the retrogen portable.
Have you guys seen or played around with this ?

It comes with 20 built in games and plays genesis carts. (the hand held has different games than the tv unit) They are officially licensed from sega. I have done some digging and found that out that both of the sega firecore and retro gen (both made my the same company) have a few issues.

The sound is only one channel and there are some sound issues with alot of games. That problem is more so on the handheld unit though. Another problem is that there are a few sega game carts that wont load on it. And last but not least is the fact that you cant use the game genie on it. And it's made a bit on the flimsy side. I still really like it though.

What do you guys think of theres ? The price is right and they seem pretty cool to me. I might grab the hand held one just for the coolness of playing genesis games where ever i am

I know we have a thread about these systems already. I personally have a RetroGen from Innex and the GenCore from Hyperkin. I don't think any of these clones are perfect -I think the FireCore has a bad reputation compared to the others out there. The GenMobile has been better reviewed, and apparently has some terrific emulation going on. The only thing the RetroGen has over it is a larger screen. I think the GenCore is pretty fine -I've been a hundred percent happy with it, and the price was right. Mono sound is a bummer, not none of the current clones feature stereo sound for some reason.

I'd rather see a Game Gear clone. the originals have too many hardware failures over time. Usually the sound goes first.

that would be amazing, I'd love to play game gear games without eyestrainovision.

Ther RetroGen does not have 20 built-in Sega games and is not officially licensed. The RetroGen has 12 firecore games built-in, but they are pretty horrible and not official. The GenMobile (http://stoneagegamer.com/genmobile.aspx) is the portable that has the 20 built-in games and is officially licensed.
