Hey kids,

So about six years ago, I got these two protos from a guy who had a bag of excess AGCI stuff lying around. They are an early build of Wally Bear and the No Gang, one of two AGCI copies of the game and a weird cart I dubbed the Color Dreams Color Test. Reason being, you turn it on, it plays a nice music track, and all the buttons will change the screen color. It doesn't seem to be bitrotted, but what purpose it served, I'll never know.

The Wally Bear only has 4 levels, a different title screen, different, a stage warp (hit select) and missing enemies. It's pretty early.

Anyway, I sent them to someone to be dumped. A few years later, I asked for them back because even I had forgotten about them. He said he moved and they were packed away. So with annual emails back and forth, I finally got them back today, six years later.

Which is irrelevant, as I've had the roms for at least 4 years. I don't know if I gave them to anyone, because my memory sucks. So anyway, here they are. Enjoy?

Super cool!

Do you mind posting some pics of the carts? I'm familiar with the Wally Bear cart, but I've never seen the CD test cart before.

And thanks for sharing!

Hell yeah Portnoyd, thanks a lot man! Very cool of you to release this stuff, the AGCI Wally Bear is a proto I've always wanted to take a peak at.

You rock Portnoyd!

Thanks Portnoyd! :)

Will try these out once I can figure out how to play NES roms on Ubuntu!

Very cool! Thanks for posting!

About the 'Color Dreams Color Test', I don't know too much about the NES, but it appears the CHR ROM may be corupted. You should have an NES programmer look at the ROM to see if it should be doing something else.

If it is from the cart pictured above, it should be CHR RAM and not CHR ROM, so not sure that would be the problem.

Someone should take a look through it in a hex editor and see if they can pull out some other stuff.

Edit: I should mention I'm going on the assumption that Color Dreams carts are set up like licensed carts, though I could be horribly mistaken. I'm far from any kind of expect on this stuff.

That's definitely the one TRM posted. The Wally Bear is literally a blank AGCI shell, so use your imagination. :P

Kevin Horton is the one who dumped it for me and he saw nothing out of the ordinary with it. I looked through it with a hex editor and nothing readable comes up.

Wally Bear has production credits in hex, that aren't in the released game ROM. That's about it.

That Wally Bear and the NO! Gang ROM has Pepsi ads in it during the subway part. Pepsi was going to sponsor that?!

Might have been their intention initially. Forgot about that one. :P

Hey, if there was going to be a Coca-Cola tie in for one of the Wheel of Fortune games, it wouldn't surprise me.

Thanks for the dumps, portnoyd.

I found something that may be noteworthy in the games CHR data. Then, After fiddling with the rom's memory in virtualNes, I have found something that is outlined. It's not much but it looks like the outline of... something. This is the strangest prototype I've ever seen. I like the music.

As for Wally Bear: Even the music is unfinished!
