I have an opportunity to get a complete ADAM computer system (computer, keyboard, printer, various tapes and docs) in original but beat up box for $50. I've wanted one for a while and I know they go for less on eBay, but shipping would be killer (this one's local so no shipping cost). Can anyone tell me if they think it's worth it?

My next question is about Colecovision compatibility. Most CV carts say "for Colecovision and ADAM" right on them. Some don't. Does that mean they actually won't work, or will any CV cart work?

I'm pretty sure most if not all Colecovision carts will work with Adam. Only the late released games and late versions of games say Colecovision & Adam. I don't think $50 is a bad price if it works properly. I've had about 6 of them and I don't think the tape drive worked properly on any of them. The Colecovision add-on also is hard to get a good connection between the computer & console. In my opinion the Adam is kind of a piece of crap and it's HUGE but if you want one I think that is a good deal. I've sold them for more than $50 on ebay before.

I'd say it's worth it. A working one in the original box sells for more than $50 on Ebay. If you want to reduce the size of the setup and the weight you can have the power supply board removed from the printer and toss the rest of the printer. The early CV carts don't say ADAM on them because there wasn't any ADAM in the works till later. The ADAM has a monitor output built in which is nice if you're sick and tired of the regular CV's fuzzy, wavy UHF output. Let me know what you're getting with it.

I seem to recall that there was a problem with the ADAM's EEPROM tape drive controllers going bad, but that user groups have developed ways to fix them.

The tape drive is the ADAM's weak link. The people who used the ADAM seriously bought a fast disk drive for it to use instead. Later they installed hard drives in them.

Thanks fellas. I picked it up last weekend. Pretty neat, if only to be playing Colecovision games on a computer. I didn't realise that you had to hook up the printer to use it though. If it weren't for that I might get rid of my Colecovision!

This auction makes me feel better about the price too. Mine is more complete than this one, but my box isn't as nice:

Does anyone have a list of cassette games for the Adam? I've seen the one at Adam's House, but I'm assuming there's more than just what he has for sale.... or was there really no 3rd party support for this?
