Now Nintendo is bringing art (http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2011/03/nintendo_brings_art_academy_to.php) to students in schools in the form of art applications usable on Dsi XL systems in art classes. Not that this has to do with our general discussion but interesting none the less.

If somebody uses a video game to make art then is it double art? ^^;

I got that email earlier and I can't say I'm surprised at all. I mean, pretty much every catergory that a Mario or Zelda game was nominated for they won. But again, we all saw that one coming and the rest of the results are just as typical.

Not much of a surprise. The most obvious games won most of the categories.

If William Hung's "music" is art, then Total Recall for the NES is the Mona Lisa.

Now it's really official: Video games ARE art (http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/219287/its-official-games-are-art/). Time for a title change, as the the argument is officially over:)

Just a minor update from an email I received:

As you know, The Art of Video Games exhibition (opening March 16, 2012) will highlight images and footage from the 80 games that won the public vote in April, as well as five games that will be available for visitors to play for a few minutes.

The exhibition also will include sketches and concept art from a small selection of games. We don't want to give too much away before the show opens, but here is a sneak peek at three of the artworks that will be featured:

Edit: The concept art pics didn't come out correctly. They were from a Sonic game, a Metal Gear Solid game and another game. I'll try to link them another way.

Bump, because I really need some closure to this argument. I think that Video Games have actually devolved from art into littler more than one toe of merchandizing for mass market products. I no more consider modern games art than I do a plush toy from a popular movie that recently released.

Does anybody want to put on the fisticuffs and prove me wrong? It could be fun, it could be real, but it probably won't be real fun.

This art exhibit is finally open (http://www.americanart.si.edu/exhibitions/archive/2012/games/) now thru September 30th. Is anyone going this week?
