Surprised it's taken so long.

Figured with the success of MM9, there was little doubt we'd see a sequel to it.

If MM9 was designed around MM1-2, this game is definitely rocking the MM4-5 vibe. That's the visual style I enjoyed the most, so I'm definitely excited.

I'd say it looks more like MM3. MM4-5 had brighter colors. MM5 was pastel in a lot of areas. But, yes, it does look nice.

This just made my night.

Mega Man 9 was a blast, even though every level seemed to have one part that was insanely frustrating. 10 should be a ton of fun.

And by the way, the color schemes in the screen shots seem like Mega Man 3; 4 and 5 were indeed much brighter.

Glad to see they're advancing visually, although I still think it's silly that they're not at least on par with 5 and 6. I get the whole idea of them looking like NES games, but there's no reason to not have them look like the best the NES had to offer.

I've been keeping my fingers crossed ever since Mega Man 9 was released that Capcom would make a 10th one. I AM SO HAPPY!!!!! I wonder if you'll be able to slide and charge up the Mega Buster in this one?

This reminds me of back when Capcom was releasing a new Mega Man game every year for the NES, and I'd always get my first glimpse of it in Nintendo Power magazine.

It might be a gradual advancement to keep up with the original idea, which was to make a new Mega Man based on MM2. Which implies that they might make more games after MM10.

The reasons are time and money, as usual.

There's infinitely more to work with in terms of technology now than back when NES games were new. Konami's Rebirth games are similar quick, tight budget WiiWare projects, but they certainly don't look like NES games. Same goes for any half-assed 2D DS game. The look is purely intentional, and they could've just as well gone with visuals on par with the late NES Mega Man games without spending much more time or money had they wanted to.

If the goal was for Mega Man to look graphically advanced, they wouldn't be using 8-bit Mega Man, now would they?

Not graphically advanced in the grand scheme of things, just in terms of its own deliberate NES realm. The games can look "retro" and still be much more attractive than MM9.

Honestly, the naming of Mega Man 9 always bugged me. I mean, there is a 7 and 8 too, and it's weird for the 9th to take a step back. I feel like there probably could've been a more clever way to name these throwbacks. Maybe something like "Mega Man 2.5" for MM9 or something along those lines.

A DS or PSP version would be nice, too.

The resolution difference would change the experience. I know this sounds nit-picky, but the Wii offers the closest thing to NES video output. Handhelds are different resolutions, and you lose the option to output to an analog display (not counting the lackluster FuSa plugin for PSP). My PS3 and 360 aren't set up to output analog, while the Wii outputs nothing but analog.

I don't see how running it on a DS would be any less authentic than playing it on a wii hooked up to a widescreen LCD tv like I have my system hooked up to. Games like these are perfect for when I'm on the train to work.

I think they could probably stop doing that now. Not that the novelty wasn't amusing for Mega Man 9 but the whole "bad artwork" thing stopped after Mega Man 2. I'd rather they match the art style of 4, 5, and 6 at this point.

If they don't, I'm seriously considering organizing a fan project to do it. The series really needs a definite beginning and ending.

It's pretty obvious that Mega Man dies somewhere between the two series, so I'm not sure if Capcom is ready to show the death of Mega Man. Even if they do, there's nothing stopping them from doing these side stories in the original timeline.

Yeah, it's actually well composed. "Inappropriate" is probably better description than "bad." A lot of the examples of bad box art involve ridiculous proportions, laughable action poses, and various other flaws not present here.

The resolution of a DS screen is not as large as the resolution that the NES output, meaning you either have to chop a portion of the screen off (like Master System to Game Gear ports) or squish it down with artificial filters. Doesn't sound too authentic to me.

PSP on the other hand would be swell.

It isn't a NES game, it's a WiiWare game running at 480i/480p. The DS screen offers a resolution of 256 x 192 pixels (Which indicates a 4:3 screen ratio if it uses square pixels). I see no reason why it couldn't be done justice at full screen, even if the resolution wasn't as high as we'd prefer.

Despite what many people wanted at this forum, despite myself and others indicating how impractical it was, this wasn't developed on old NES development kits and then ran through emulators on these modern consoles. It's a modern game developed using modern methods that just takes it's gameplay and graphical inspiration from the old NES classics.

Good point. A cartoony Mega Man cover would be more appropriate, but I still like the style of this new cover. :) The hand-painted artwork is a refreshing change of pace from all of the generic Photoshop collages of recent years.

Funny, Commando Man doesnt look much like Super Joe. Maybe there will be a hidden nod to the old Capcom game in there somewhere..

Ice themed? For the character's name that doesn't make much sense.

I would think that a character called Commando Man would simply lack underwear.

Seriously, though -- Commando Man should have long extending arms (a la Bionic Commando) or be able to shoot missiles or something. "Ice" is not where my mind goes when I think "Commando."

Commando Man's attacks are listed in the article as well, and his stage will be desert themed.

Okay...that makes a hell of a lot more sense. I still wish he was a robot who didn't wear underwear or something like that, but a desert theme works a lot better for the character's name.

Why are everyone assuming that all digital copy of games downloaded will not carry on to the big N's next console? YES IT WILL I can guarantee it. Do not ask me how they will do it or whatever... but I think it is just non-sense if they don't allow that. We paid for some data, it is ours, it should not be binded to the medium it was downloaded with.

Same for xbla and psn.

I still understand wanting a physical copy, as I am also a collector. But there is a part of me that would be happy if next gen is just digital copy. This way I can continue collecting for all the current and past systems without worrying on what new game is coming out. It just make less things collecting dust, that's all.

Why are everyone assuming that all digital copy of games downloaded will not carry on to the big N's next console? YES IT WILL I can guarantee it.

And you base this assumption off what? Why do you think the data we've downloaded will be any different than the data on a retail disc? Backwards compatibility was never a given, and now you're saying that not only it is (Would have to be for this DLC to work), but that we'll be able to transfer and keep our content? Talk about making a blind leap.

Backwards compatibility with disc isn't even assured with any console generation, yet alone with this upcoming one (Look at the difficulty and expense MS and Sony had with PS2/Xbox compatibility, with one company failing and the other removing the ability due to expenses). It's quite possible this next generation of consoles won't even be able to play these current games since it will be even more difficult and expensive to achieve than this last time around (Including Nintendo, they can't keep using GameCube hardware as a base forever, which means compatibility on the Wii 2 won't essentially be free like it was this time around).

And without backwards compatibility, these digital titles won't even be able to work if they wanted them to.

So I'm puzzled why you'd think it's a given when there's no precedence for it and these consoles might not even be BC. Plus, I can assure you a company like Nintendo wants to keep reselling something like Super Mario Bros. They didn't sell you the Virtual Console release expecting that you'd own it in perpetuity, they licensed it to you to utilize on a single Nintendo Wii. There's no system in place for you to even transfer a WiiWare or Virtual Console title to another Wii, let alone to another console generation.

You guys must be smoking something awfully good to hope for these games to come out on disc. Do you have ANY idea how much money they save by not having to pay for production, storage, and distribution? If it wasn't for that, most if not ALL DLC exclusive games would never be released. You guys need to get off the drugs and realize that this is the future of gaming. As internet services improve and become more widespread, the digital medium is replacing the disc. PC gaming is already well on its way to this end, as nearly every available PC game on the market can be purchased and downloaded through clients like Steam, and console services are slowly following. It's going to be fantastic for the gaming market, so quit dawdling and download the damn game already.

At any rate, I won't complain in THIS case, because it's friggin Mega Man 10. I'm just thankful for what we're getting. Physical releases would be icing on the cake.

I will, however, point out that the Starforce and EXE games see physical release, but (to my knowlege) have a smaller audience. Logic error?

I think we'll get these on disc, we've seen plenty of XBLA games on retail disc (Such as Namco's releases like Pac-Man Championship Edition on Namco Museum).

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Capcom later in this generation revisit Mega Man Anniversary Collection from the last generation and do a similar project on current generation consoles, with Mega Man 9 & 10 added into it.

I can't imagine Capcom doing standalone retail releases of these games, but I wouldn't be shocked at all to see a Capcom Mega Man compilation that includes both titles, or to see Capcom cash in on their XBLA library later in this generation (Digital download sales dry up fairly quickly, so things like 1942 and Mega Man 9 aren't getting many new sales now).

They have a large XBLA library that would offer excellent material for a Capcom XBLA compilation.

1942: Joint Strike
Bionic Commando Rearmed
Final Fight: Double Impact (Supposed to be coming)
Magic Sword (Supposed to be coming)
Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Mega Man 9
Mega Man 10
Rocketmen: Axis of Evil
Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3

And probably more that I've forgotten. I'd be shocked to not see Capcom take advantage of these titles when sales slow through inclusion on a retail Capcom compilation (Dedicated to just XBLA titles, or mixed in with other games), like other companies like Namco have done.

I expect we'll have a way to have MM9 and 10 on disc eventually.
