So now that the decade is nearly over...what are your favorite games released from 2000-2009? Also, what one game would you nominate for "game of the decade"?
Being mostly a classic gamer...my list of favorite games from this decade isn't going to be as long as most other people's, but here it is anyway:
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Final Fantasy IX
Chrono Cross
Mega Man X5
Metal Gear Solid 2
ICO
Halo
Grand Turismo 3
Super Smash Bros. Melee

off the top of my head:
Wipeout HD/Fury
GTA Vice City
Jet Grind Radio
Resident Evil 4
Gradius V
Metroid Prime Pinball
N+
Guitar Hero
Burnout 3
Street Fighter IV
Puzzle Quest
GTA Chinatown Wars (DS version)
Funny thing...if I had to name a favorite of the decade it would be GTAVC...but of all the games on my list, that's the one I'll least likely be playing in ten years.

Hmm...
These games, obviously - and they span the ENTIRE DECADE!:
Pokemon Gold/Silver and Crystal (2000-2001)
Pokemon R/S/E/FR/LG (2003-2005)
Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver (2009)
And these, off the top of my head:
Kingdom Hearts
Kingdom Hearts II
Megaman ZX
Trauma Center: Under the Knife
Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2
Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Trace Memory
There's probably others I can't think of at the moment, and many others I haven't played yet... just that my gamer mind is still stuck in the '90s! :D

Honorary mentions for Perfect Dark, Timesplitters 2, Oblivion, Animal Crossing, LittleBigPlanet and MGS4 which I sank a hell of a lot of time into but I feel just don't match up to the top 10.

-Jet Grind Radio
-Ninja Gaiden/Ninja Gaiden Black/Ninja Gaiden Sigma
-Bioshock
-Fallout 3
-Rez
-Pac-Man Championship Edition
-Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
-InFamous
-Black & White
Edit - thought of more.
-Samba De Amigo
-NFL 2K series (I still say screw Madden...)
-Power Stone 2
-Resident Evil 4 (but the Wii edition is the best version, by far)
-Phantasy Star Online (DC version was best by far)
-Quake 3
-Metroid Prime Trilogy
-Neverwinter Nights
And one of the defining games of this decade, that I quit playing a while back
-World of Warcraft
Did Armada come out in '99, at the Dreamcasts launch, or was that released in 2000? If that was in 2000, you can add it to my list as well.

That's tricky since I have to sort out what games on N64, PlayStation, GBC, etc. came out past 2000.
Well, my top favorites from this decade would definitely be Valkyrie Profile (which came out in Japan in '99 but in 2000 here) and Star Ocean: Blue Sphere, since if you throw in Star Ocean 2, you got a three-way tie for my favorite game ever. Plenty of other good stuff from tri-Ace this decade as well (well, basically everything they've ever released besides 2 gamesin the 90s), with Star Ocean 3 and Radiata Stories being a couple other of my favorites from this decade.
Plenty of good stuff on the GameCube, with a few favorites being Super Monkey Ball (heck, for just Monkey Target alone), Super Mario Sunshine, and Pikmin.
Besides the tri-Ace games, I think the greatest thing to come out of the PlayStation 2 was Katamari. Damacy was the very first US PS2 game I ever owned, and if I remember correctly, I think I still didn't have a US system by the time I got We <3 Katamari as well. I'm sure I was a pain borrowing a PS2 to play through both beginning to end. :) Now that I think about it, a lot of my PS2 gaming has been with weird, quirky stuff, like Chulip and Cho Aniki.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike
Timesplitters 2
Pokemon Crystal
Mickey's Speedway USA
Super Smash Bros. Melee

Let me think. Correct me if any of these are pre-2000 please. For series, I put the first game in that series but I generally liked most of the sequels too. These are in NO particular order by the way. That's a bit over 50 titles, not counting sequels...and some of those AREN'T good...but most are.

Not a game, but the best thing about this decade is the advance in online gaming. Specifically FPS's. I've been playing online FPS's from the beginning (1995...Doom II 28k modem to modem), but what we have these days is just beautiful.
2nd place is the concept of the in-game "open world".

I'm going to make a list of quite a few. This list is nothing compared to the amount of great games released the last decade. Also no ports unless it added something significant, a complete remake, or first time released in the US.
Arc the Lad 2
Wild ARMs 2, 3, 4, 5, and Wild ARMs XF
Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne
Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2
Final Fantasy 9
God Hand
Phantasy Star Online 1 and 2
Devil May Cry 1 and 3
Suikoden 3
Demon's Souls
King's Field The Ancient City
Eternal Ring
Evergrace and Forever Kingdom
Armored Core series(Master of Arena for PSX released in 2000, two were released previously, the rest on PS2/PS360/PSP)
Gundam Battle Universe
Star Ocean First Departure
Castlevania Circle of the Moon, Aria of Sorrow, Lament of Innocence, Dracula X Chronicles, and Dawn of Sorrow, and Symphony of the Night
Dragon Warrior 7, 4 DS, 5 DS, and Dragon Quest 8
Dragon Quest Monsters 2, Caravan Heart, and Joker. (The original DQM was 12/31/99. One day from 2000.)
Ogre Battle 64 and Tactics Ogre the Knight of Lodis
Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3(yeah, I love this game.)
Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution and 5
Gurumin A Monstrous Adventure
Grand Theft Auto 4 and San Andreas
WWF No Mercy
*edit*
I had to edit the list to add Ogre Battle 64(I added Knight of Lodis and didn't even think of OB64) and WWF No Mercy after reading what Aussie2B wrote. I didn't think of any N64 games before then. I would have also added Wrestlemania 2000 but I knew it wasn't released in 2000.

Ehh I'm not sure, but here's some that come to mind as absolute favorites or likely to be (unlike a poll of favorites from the 80s or 90s, I can't say I'm choosing many of these for replayability, unfortunately):
Morrowind (almost certainly the most hours I put into any game on this list)
Battlefield 2 (probably the runner-up, lol I wouldn't play this anymore though)
Resident Evil 4 GC
Resident Evil remake, GC
Otogi II (need to finish that + get the first)
Astro Boy: Omega Factor (loved the "figure out all this stuff" aspect to it)
Ninja Gaiden (Xbox)
Half-Life 2 (it's easy to forget what an epic this was when first playing it)
Other good stuff: Likely anything from the Klonoa series, the Splinter Cell games, many Nintendo franchise games (that clears up a bunch, starting with Majora's Mask on the good ol' 64, and continuing on with Metroid and Zelda series entries on the GC), minor stuff like some Rainbow Six titles, the Elite Force series from Raven; Phantasy Star Online 1 & 2, Condemned: CO, the FEAR series, Psychonauts, Oblivion, Left 4 Dead, and so on. I'm missing a big chunk of the games for this decade - including a couple in that list - due to them being on PS2 or even just being Xbox / GC titles I don't have.
An awful lot of the games I would have considered putting in come in around 1999 (Tenchu, System Shock 2, Thief, Heretic II, and so on), and 1998 would have expanded things significantly (Half-Life being the big one).

Only one vote for Halo, and none for Halo 2..
Why does this not shock me?
The Halo games have a really fun multiplayer mode, but in my opinion, the main games aren't that great. I don't care how great it is to play multiplayer, if the actual single player game is a chore to play, then it's not going to be on a list of my favorites.

Yay, another list thread. For this thread, I decided to do something a little interesting. First, I typed a long, stream-of-consciousness list of all the games since 2000 that I would describe as among my favorite. Then I broke it down by year and platform. Statistics follow. Doing this required picking a version, as far as multiplatform releases go, which arguably skews the statistics, but it's not like this is vital information. I just went with the version that I prefer.
Total number of games: 100 (by coincidence, not intent)
Games by year:
2000 - 19
2001 - 14
2002 - 11
2003 - 11
2004 - 9
2005 - 12
2006 - 7
2007 - 7
2008 - 8
2009 - 2
Games by platform:
Playstation - 7
Nintendo 64 - 2
Dreamcast - 16
Playstation 2 - 14
Gamecube - 5
Xbox - 19
Playstation 3 - 4
Wii - 7
Neo Geo Pocket Color - 1
Game Boy Advance - 12
N-Gage - 1
DS - 3
PC - 7
Arcade - 2
These numbers don't really correlate to my overall preferences. I guess I just wasted a bunch of time and none of this means shit.
Here (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/567401/Games%20by%20year.txt) is my list (grouped by year), if anyone cares to read it.

Yeah, I looked at the double release pack they were released in yesterday. I probably should add them to the extended list. As far as replayability, despite the wide range of possibilities in both games I didn't feel there was a big reason to replay them right away. I'll no doubt return to both someday (I need to actually finish Deus Ex for the first time).
Another choice: The original Soldier of Fortune. I've been having a hell of a time finding a machine that the Platinum release won't crash on but which also has a powerful enough graphics card to play it. Unlike Anachronox, released some years later, SoF seems to perform really poorly on Intel Extreme Graphics (integrated, with the 845G chipset).

If Phantasy Star Online is your favorite game, wouldn't Phantasy Star Online 1 and 2 be your favorite Gamecube game? PSO 1 and 2 is, obviously, twice as large with all the new areas.I played a LOT of PSO 1&2 on the 'Cube, and I loved it, but PSO came first and has a special place in my heart... plus online was free. PSO Ep. 1&2 should definitely be in my list, but it was more of the same so RE4 takes the top spot on the 'Cube.
A few more I forgot about:
PSO Episodes 1&2 - 'Cube - as mentioned above.
Animal Crossing/Wild World - 'Cube/DS - amazingly addicting and mysteriously fun.
Metropolis Street Racer - DC - my favorite racer of all time. Perfect gameplay and presentation.
Paper Mario 1000 Year Door - 'Cube - wonderful writing, and just all around fun.
God of War - PS2 - one of the best 3rd person action games of all time. Very cool gameplay, larger-than-life bosses and amazing graphics
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles - Wii - finally, a light gun game designed for consoles and executed brilliantly. One of my favorites on the system.
Shenmue - DC - I loved the fighting/adventure mix, and got totally sucked in. Yes, I do know where I can find sailors!
Shenmue 2 - DC -Fixed the few issues w/ the first one. Gorgeous and fun.

Never played the original Soldier of Fortune for some reason, but before deciding to limit both lists to 15 items I almost ended up adding SoF II: Double Helix to my PC list — a qualification that would've been based on the entirely scientific reasons of being able to blow limbs off and throw knives at peoples' faces.

That's not how decades work:
1980-1989
1990-1999
2000-2009
etc.
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Yay! :)

World of Warcraft is about the only one I can say for this decade.
Sure I beat Super Mario Galaxy and that Zelda Wii game but after beating them I had no desire to ever go back and play them again. I bought Halo 1 on the original xbox but found it insanely boring. Just not a fan of any shooters that came out after Duke 3D (I'm old hah).

Also, I didn't think about listing Japanese only releases. Even though the original Brigandine misses the 2000 mark by a couple years, Brigandine Grand Edition was released in 2000.
Arc the Lad 2 is easily the best of this decade, Brigandine Grand Edition would come at an extremely close second.

I could agree with so many of these. Bioshock was fun, I really enjoyed Metroid Prime, the Castlevania GBA / DS series were great, and I liked KOTOR a lot. Hotel Dusk was a classic. Halo was decent, and a solid game, but it doesn't make it to any of my "best of" lists. Loved Sid Meier's new Pirates! game. I liked Half Life 2, Freedom Force, and Tron 2.0 was a favorite of mine. Morrowind was merely OK in my book, and really doesn't begin to approach the greatness that was Ultima VII.
But those are all "honorable mentions," and for my "real" list I will name but five (one of which is a series), and this is in order of favorite-ness:
1. Deus Ex. Hands-down. This may be my most favorite game of all time, possibly. But not the one I spend most of my time on.
2. Pokemon series. All of it. The main RPGs, I mean - not Ranger, not Mystery Dungeon, not any of the other "add-on" games. Can't believe how much this game series has really captured almost my full gaming attention. No game series has ever really done that before, for me. I would never even consider driving for hours for another game series, but this one...
3. Thief 2. The original was great; this was likewise awesome.
4. Beyond Good & Evil. Wished that this had felt a bit more complete, but it's pretty amazing as-is.
5. Odin Sphere. Not sure what it is about this game, but I really enjoy it. A lot. It's sheer pleasure for me to play this game - the artwork is fantasic, and the story is engaging.

Jesus, these lists are huge. I like to keep things short and straightforward.
1) Mother 3
2) Super Smash Bros. Melee
3) Metroid Prime(series)
4) Skies of Arcadia
5) Castle Crashers
NOT NEARLY ENOUGH MOTHER 3 IN THIS THREAD
I was really trying to stretch my list out. I've had some fun with games this decade, but I'm struck by how few games from this decade I'd list as all-time favorites. It's due to the decline of arcades, and my refocusing on that style of game.

There isn't a year 0, but decade just means a period of ten years. 1976 to 1985 was supposed to be "the decade for women", for example. If he had said "the 201st decade", you'd be right.

That is unless you count the last decade of the BC era and the first of the AD era. Both of which were nine years due to the lack of the year 0.

Here are the ones that I have personally loved this decade:
- Grand Theft Auto - Vice City
- Perfect Dark
- Sonic Adventure 2
- Star Wars Battlefront
- Super Smash Bros. Melee
- Half-Life 2

Fave Portable: WarioWare
Fave Xbox: Halo
Fave Nintendo: Eternal Darkness
Fave PlayStation: Ico

Considering that I didn't purchase a lot of games the last decade (I had a Gamecube, but mostly had collections of older games). I bought an Xbox 360 in late 2008, but did not accumulate a ton of games for it. As such, here are some games that I enjoyed that were released from 2000-2009 (not including remakes or collections):
- Conker's Bad Fur Day
- Paper Mario
- Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
- Katamari Damarcy
- Portal
- New Super Mario Bros.

- Rock Band 2
- Super Mario Galaxy
- Pikmin
- Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
- Dragon Warrior VII
- Wii Sports
