I recently picked two of them up at a local shop for 300 YEN($3.00) each brand new. Pretty fun controller though I wouldn't pay much more than $10.00-$15.00 for one. Its squared off edges get uncomfortable fast though and tend to blister the palm of my hand if I use it enough. An actual GameBoy is thicker so it doesn't do this to me even though it has squared of edges as well. Maybe my hands are just too big for the controller though. Despite all this, when I pop in my Super GameBoy 2 I still find myself rockin' the Super Gameboy controller for its novelty value alone.
No idea why they added a slow motion speed button to the controller though. Pretty much pointless. Even though it's more than a simple turbo start button since it actually taps into the game itself I still don't get it. I could possibly see why one would want to speed a game up just for kicks but slow it down? GameBoy games often feel slow to begin with especially when played on the Super GameBoy. Blah. Still a nifty little peripheral.

Looks kinda cool, but not really something I want or need.

Same here. Cool idea, though. Let me know when they make one for the Gamcube GBA adapter.

I have one of these that I got about a year ago off of ebay. It's really a novelty thing and completes the super gameboy setup.
There is an equivalent controller designed for the Gamecube GBA/GB adapter called the Hori Gameboy Player Adapter:

I have the black one and it works beautifully!

But the Hori pad makes sense considering it rids of the analog control and makes for a better positioned and better feeling d-pad. I don't really understand the purpose of a Super Game Boy controller considering the SNES pad was already set up to play Game Boy games fine.

That's a pretty neat controller. I'd pick one up if I ever found one in the wild (fat chance), but I don't think that I'd ever go looking for one, or even pay shipping for one. Neat though.

This controller isn't just for looks. There's a switch on the front that changes between SNES and SGB mode. In SGB mode, it has buttons for the following features:
Switching colors
Open SGB menu
Toggle slow-mo (two speeds)
Mute sound
I believe at least the last two functions are only available with this controller and not with the standard pad. I've got two of these but never used them on an actual SGB.
Edit: found two sources that back this up

So has anyone tried it on a Gamecube w/ GBA Player via the retroport adapter? I think it would be great to have for that, too bad it doesn't have shoulder buttons for some GBA games though. :(

That SGB controller looks cool as hell. I...shit...yes...I have to have one now. Thanks a lot guys. :(
What doesn't make sense is that Hori Gamecube version. The button layout is still a Gamecube layout, which...I dunno...why not use the normal Gamecube controller now? I dun' get it. :P

The Hori Gamecube controller is miles ahead of the official gamecube controller, since it is shaped like a SNES pad (which is unanimously agreed as THE BEST pad for any system before and since). It has the best D-pad of any system, and feels awesome. The D-pad on the gamecube controller is a joke. Too small and stiff. Trust me, you play GBA/GB with the Hori Gamecube controller, you'll never play with anything else again.

So are you saying the Hori GC pad would still be better than simply using a SNES pad?

The Hori GC pad is like playing with a SNES pad since it is shaped and feels like a SNES pad. I really reccomend it if you have a gameboy player for your GC.
