Tonight we couldn't wait any loger to exchange gifts and my boyfriend gave me a master system along with a whole slew of other video game themed things... but that's beside the point...
I thought i had read a while ago in another thread that you can play PAL games in an NTSC Master system?
(I would have searched out the thread but it never seems to let me search) =(
is this true? or if anyone knows which thread i was thinking about that would be aweseome.
I can't wait to start collecting seeing as I don't have any carts yet.

It's true, plenty of actual European games were sold in Canada too. They work fine.

The only PAL games that I know of that won't work on an NTSC SMS are the Codemasters releases and I believe a Back To The Future game won't work either. Not sure if those games will work on a model 2 SMS though.

yeah, i've been researching around since we opened presents... with my crocheted megaman hat on... and found the short list of games that won't work, but it's okay since they didn't appeal to me anyway.
I just started my collection by purchasing a copy of sonic chaos for a couple of pounds.
I love starting to collect new systems... especially since i've never had a master system before.
does anyone have any suggestions for me other than the core sonic games i must get and phantasy star?
... no. I don't have a gun yet. =(

If your lucky and you plug the system in and turn it on it will have a game or 2 in the system. Depending of course which system it is. 2 out of the 3 first models have 1 or 2 games built into them. Check it out.

I think I have a spare one around somewhere, I could check if you'd like since I'm just a bit north of where you are.
No idea on other good games besides Phantasy Star and Golden Axe Warrior which are the two games I'm keeping an eye out for. I've pretty much sold off all the other games I had for the system. I've heard Deep Duck Trouble came out for it, I wanted that for Game Gear but it might be good for the SMS too. I've heard good things about the Mickey Mouse games too as they were different than the ones for the Genesis.
Just wondering, does anyone know if the gun can be used on a Genesis too? Is it compatible with Justifier games, would it work with the power base converter using SMS games?
Is it compatible with Justifier games,
Nope.
would it work with the power base converter using SMS games?
Yep.

Power Strike 2... C'mon, it's Aleste.
I'd definitely grab PAL versions of some of the more expensive US SMS titles. Take Strider, the only difference is a UPC sticker on the US version and that costs how much again? LOL
Mind the exchange rates though, USD has taken a dive vs BPS and Euro. It's not as cheap as it once was.

Quoting http://www.smspower.org/dev/docs/smstech-20021112.txt,
...the Codemasters SMS games are only compatible for the most part with PAL SMS 2 machines, as they use or rely on features specific to the video hardware of those consoles.
Here are some favourites:
Fantasy Zone
Miracle Warriors
Wonder Boy in Monster Land
Kenseiden
Golvellius
Double Dragon
Ys
Merry Christmas :)

Micro Machines will run on an NTSC SMS2, I've tried it myself. I don't have any other Codemasters titles, tho.

oh really? That would be awesome! what would you want for it?
Do you ever hit up A&C games for games? Just saying since they're a bunch of great guys there.
Master of Darkness looks amazing! I've been doing youtube hunts on all the suggestions and i have to say I'm going to have a sad empty wallet by the end of the week...
Mine is the hang on/safari hunt version if that makes a difference to anyone?

I've tried Dizzy, Cosmic and Micro and they all work flawlessly.

All the Fantasy Zone games are fun, along with Zillion 1 and 2.
It may sound funny but my 2nd favorite baseball game of all time is Reggie Jackson Baseball.

@ Ricochet, FABombjoy & megasdkirby, thanks for the clarification on those Codemasters titles working on NTSC systems. Looks like I might be picking up the ones that'll run on the NTSC SMS.

I don't know if it helps, but near the end of Cosmic, there is a conversational scene involving Linus and the bus driver (?, as I don't remember correctly). The graphics, when played on a US Model 2 SMS, glitch up horribly.
Also, the screen flashes alot when an item is highlighted. Was this due to the game being played on a US SMS 2?
