Now in late WIP stage, this project is an old-school style shooter in the style of my favorite 80s arcade shooters with some strategic elements added in. I hope to have it out (it'll be a freeware download) by January 2010, as well as a website set up with downloads and hints, and info about a couple of other projects I have in the works.
EDIT: Primitive Nightmare has been released. Grab it at http://www.fusekigames.com and check out the hints paage as well Enjoy!
Edit #2: Site is back up for now. Not sure what happened. Sorry for any inconvenience.
I've also the game on Mediafire for now. Grab it at http://www.mediafire.com/file/zyzz4tjrjjc/primnightrev1.zip if the site goes down again.

Is there a cd boot-able image file that will play on a unmodded dreamcast?

Yes. The image will be self-bootable, burnable with Discjuggler 4.x or Alcohol 120%.

Is anyone going to sell burnt copies for those of us who are completely PC-retarded.
I am someone who once re-bought a segaCD so I could try the Penn&Teller. I spent two days trying to burn that game every way imaginable. After $20 in bad burns, I gave up. :grumble:

^Its not hard, just burn the image with discjuggler.
The game looks cool OP, I'll be interested in trying it when it comes out

Google IMGBURN, small, simple and FREE. Burns anything. Install, select image, select destination drive and click burn. Use a CDR. It does not get easier......

Some of those ripped Sega CD games (and to a certain extent, Saturn games) are bin/cue, with mp3s or wavs that need to be burned to the first track(s). Burning PN will be trivial, with only one CDI file to burn. Discjuggler or Alcohol 120% (as well as BootDreams) can burn these images. The image download itself should be less than 20mb.
Thanks to all who are interested. More news soon...

Release is imminent; hopefully this weekend. I just need to fix a bug that suddenly popped up and make sure I didn't overrun some hardware constraints :)

Yes they do. You won't be very happy about them, though, if you make it that far :)

Thanks! I'm really glad you enjoyed it. Unfortunately, you're one of about four people who grabbed a buggy version of it. I removed that version before anyone else got ahold of it, but eventually, the version will overrun the graphics memory and crash. I've upped the version I meant to in the first place to replace the bad one if you wish to grab a new one. And sorry about the coaster :(

It's the same file name. Still a different version?

Yeah. The graphics library in the first upload was too big and would overrun the memory limit and crash the game. Where it crashes is pretty much random; it could be on any wave, while you're playing. When imaging the disc, I accidentally used the wrong library. I just had to replace it with the slimmed version (reduced the playfield a bit) and reimage the disc, then reupload the image. So it's the same name, just a better version. (Can't say not buggy, because it's always possible to miss them :) )

It took me awhile to figure out what was going on, but I think I have the hang of it now. I only got to the 13th wave. :(
It's pretty decent though, I must say.
It would be nice if there were some indication of where the movable playfield ends, but I can understand not wanting to clutter up the screen.
Did I get the bad version? I just grabbed it about a half hour ago.

Not if you grabbed it after 3:45 am EST. Keep practicing, and check out the hints page (which I'll be adding to tomorrow, including a screenshot with some pointers on what everything means). It takes a while to completely get the hang of it as it *is* a bit complicated, but once you do, you'll hit the higher waves with no problem. I'm still waiting to hear of someone getting a warp crystal :)
I'm off to bed now. Thanks for the comments and I'm glad you like the game :)

I just downloaded and played this, and wow, this is a fun game! The first time I tried it I was using the analog stick, which makes it hard, since it's an eight-way control setup. On my next try, using the D-pad, I made it to level 35 with a final score of 1.26 million.
The thing that impresses me most is the fact that new enemies are being introduced as late as level 35! I think at that point there were nine different enemies, each with their own unique attack style. The graphics are also great--simple, but bold enough that identifying enemies is easy. Another thing that I really like is the plasma ray used to attract the targets, a very cool feature.
The only problem that I had with the game is the fact that the instructions text scrolls a little fast. I ended up skipping the instructions, because I was finding it hard to keep up with them, and after looking at your hints page, I missed out on some important features because of it. At least it means that I shouldn't have any problem scoring much higher next time!
Any plans for making a mock-up cover image for this? I would love to give this game a proper Dreamcast-style jewel-case.

Glad you enjoyed the game. There are a couple of issues that were brought up to me (the too-fast scrolling instructions being one of them) that I'll need to fix and release as revision 2, but none are killers at this point. I'll wait a week and see if there are any more before I release rev. 2. The current issues are simple variable tweaks that'll take me a minute to address.
I'll look into the analog controls. I personally didn't have any problem with them and this is the first that I've heard of any issues. There should be more than eight directions when using the analog stick. Maybe there's a code positioning issue I need to look into that could be causing problems. I'll check it out.
Level 35! Very nice! You've seemed to grasp the finer points of the game, which is something I worried that people might not understand when I released it. There are specific strategies that can be used to play almost indefinitely. And you haven't seen every enemy yet :)
Thanks for the kind words and I'm happy you're enjoying the game. Keep me posted on your progress. I'm still awaiting a report about the "somethings" I mentioned on the hints page :)

I'm trying this when I get home, and from what I hear it's good. This is the type of game my mother would get into, I wonder if I can get her hooked on it. :D
