I'm further north and have the day off - so I'm going to enjoy our 6-9" of snow...

Top ten in order would be too messy, so I'm going to pick ten that I think would make a great snowed in grouping... in no particular order:

1) Alternate Reality: The City (a800)
2) Yoomp! (a800)
3) Phantasy Star IV (gen)
4) Landstalker (gen)
5) Super Mario Brothers 2 (via mario all stars)
6) Turrican (amiga)
7) Wizkid (amiga)
8) King of Fighters XI (ps2)
9) Madden 10 (ps2 ... shut up)
10) SNK v. Capcom: Cardfighters Clash (NGPC)

... which I'll probably hit all those tomorrow :D

Isn't this just another "what's your favorite games" just with a different label.

Anyways.

Tactics Ogre Let Us Cling Together
Arc the Lad 2
Brigandine
Wild ARMs 3
Final Fantasy 6
Super Castlevania 4
Xenogears
Tales of Eternia
Breath of Fire 3
Grand Theft Auto 4(if my internet was still working in this scenario, otherwise it'd be another game.)

It's not snowing and it's not supposed to snow at all in Buffalo, supposedly the bad weather capital of the universe, but if it were Snowpocalypse 2009, I'd probably set up a new game of Civ IV with the hardest, longest settings and sit on my ass until I could leave the house.

I'd like to see a list of games that feature people being snowed in (I don't mean anything about teh durgz though) or, failing that (most likely), games with a snow theme.

You know, I think some N64 3D platformers have ice barriers to melt with stuff - possibly one of the Zeldas, a Banjo-Kazooie game, or Super Mario 64, maybe.

Seeing as how I did this through the last blizzard I was snowed in for (albeit with Civ III), I'm going to have to agree. There's something about just sitting around for a good eighteen hours and just trying to plow through the French with your musketeers.

Anything immersive would make my list. I know that right now I'm in the mood for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and seeing as how I am indeed stuck in a snow storm (albeit not snowed in), it's going to be what I'm playing tomorrow.

5) Can Can Bunny Extra (PC-FX, I'm working on writing a walkthru).

7) SMT: Devil Summoner (PS2, I need to play through this).
8) Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door (currently playing, so I'll probably hit this up).
9) Panzer Dragoon Saga (also currently playing, but I've almost beat it so I almost didn't want to list it).

Not quite, I don't think I could play my favorites all on the same day with endless hours snowed in.

I'd probably sharpen my skills on fighting games (GG, SF2's, Marvel VS Capcom), or Have a Contra Day (Contra, Super C, Alien Wars)

You like Comix Zone a lot, eh? It is a good game (",)

I live in a sub-tropical region myself, so the scenario is unlikely to happen to me...

If I were snowed in, I'd likely just install Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, and all the expansions...and just play all day and night long. Then, when I got bored, I'd build a couple rides just to see how many people I could kill...

Since this is the retro forum, I'd fire up my PSX and play Turismo 1 or 2, along with some Colin McRae Rally 1 or 2. I'd most likely play a Squaresoft rpg as well. Actually......I'd sit and complete Soul Reaver. Been looking for an excuse to do that, since it's a game that you can get lost in if you don't play it steadily.

Where I live, being snowed in also means being a purist of sorts. Like having an obsession with Seattle-based rock bands and being completely uninterested in anything else. So I'm basing my list on that meaning:

1. Bomberman
2. Contra
3. Gran Turismo
4. Dragon Warrior
5. Street Fighter II
6. Puyo Puyo
7. Mario Kart
8. Castlevania
9. Micro Machines
10. Zelda

Or am I?

We haven't had a lot of snow around here, but we did get a 3-day nor'easter last month in which all school and work was closed due to extreme downtown flooding. During that time, all I played was Pokemon and SNES games - Pokemon SoulSilver, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, Chrono Trigger, and a whole slew of SFC games.

3) Dragon Warrior III (ditto)

Play the SNES remake since it's recently had a fan translation. Amazing graphics on an already amazing game. Some of the best graphics on the SNES easily. I need to go through one tower to get one more item before I can go take on Zoma.

10) If all else fails... RPG Maker!!!

Which RPG Maker? 2k? If you use the console RPG Maker titles, try out RPG Maker 2. The amount of content is huge and you can design an RPG any way you like. Of course, using the game means you have to have a masters degree in game design because it's ridiculously hard to use. You can make a pretty large game though.

RPG Maker 3 is easier to make a really good looking RPG. Better looking graphically, but the amount of content and customization is a joke in comparison to RPG Maker 2. Obviously none have anything on RPG Maker 2k, but if you want a 3d RPG Maker title.

I was talking console-only, english-language only, so I meant the PSX RPG Maker. I've tried all three US-released RPG Maker games and I like the first one the best. The second one is certainly deeper, but I fear I'm too stupid to figure it out, and plus the game you can play on it looks so awful, I dunno but the way the graphics move was giving me sea-sickness. So I realized that if I knuckled down and learned how to make a game in RPG Maker 2, it would be unplayable regardless. RPG Maker 3 has the least amount of customization and some of the stuff you can do I couldn't really figure out (land building, basically, plus for some reason I'd make something one way and it wouldn't do it, but it's been awhile so I can't explain better than that, it had to do w/ land building tho and I think making rivers and stuff?). So I stick to the first RPG Maker even tho you have to either design a very small RPG or use a lot of memory cards.

It really isn't just a "whats your favorite game list" For instance unfortnately I got called in to work...but imagine if you got snowed in and unexpectedly you didn't have to go anywhere,...your job, school, whatever....With snow storms and depending on what state you live....you never know sometimes what your itinerary for that day might be...things can get cancelled...etc...So here you are STUCK inside with all the time in the world,,,,this is why it is diffferent!

Isn't this just another "what's your favorite games" just with a different label.

I did in fact get snowed in this weekend (Baltimore) so I did IN FACT have to occupy myself with games. My sequence went something like this:

NiGHTS
Chrono Trigger
Kenseiden
Space Harrier

It was especially nice to game by an open window and glance out at the white, deserted world.

It's not just a top 10...like books, some games just go better with certain weather. It's mostly rain out here in the Bay Area, but when it is cold and rainy I am partial to these four in particular:

Alien 3 (Genesis version)
Rolling Thunder 2 (Genesis again)
Shen Mue
Phantasy Star Online (Original Dreamcast version...solo...I know, weird)

All Sega...hrm. An unmentioned fifth is almost any RPG (dark n' gloomy is good...Persona then?). Something you need to sort of get your couch ass comfortable with, open the window but turn out the lights and settle in.
