I was surprised by this auction. The damn thing is broken yet still went for over 2 bills. What's the going rate for a working one?

Broken, but probably a very simple fix for someone so inclined.

If you watch enough Turbo Duo auctions you'll see that the prices vary radically with very little rhyme or reason. In my opinion that one probably only went that high because the box appears to be in pretty nice shape.

I'd say 300$ tops for a boxed one that works

My opinion usely a turboduo is over priced to begin with. Then again...the same can be said for most TG16 games being sold at the bin price on egay.

Stargate if you realy want a duo just get a (duo-r or rx) they are better priced and more reliable

Yeah, I actually have a TurboDuo as well as a PC Engine Duo-R. You are right, the Duo-R was cheap compared to the TurboDuo. I just saw that auction and started thinking maybe I should sell my boxed TurboDuo for a profit.

all things considered:

Boxed TurboDuo: 280$ + shipping
Boxed Duo-R w/ 5 games and 4 controllers: 70$ + shipping or something retarded stupid cheap.

For me at least.

yea, sell your TurboDuo if you have a duo-r , lol.

Price is scaled a bit high because of the box. I bought a broken one off of ebay for 50 bucks.

It was missing the hu-card dust cover, and it couldn't read hu-card or CDs, according to the auction. After I received it, I try a hu-card and it played with NO problem. It wasn't able to read CDs, they would refuse to spin. So I opened it up and my friend noticed the gear was stuck. After a little tinkering he was able to crank it a few notches and then it played cds flawlessly.

All said and done, I was able to pick up a perfectly working Turbo Duo with no dust cover for 50 bucks. One of my favorite ebay purchases needless to say!

I've got a brand new-in-box unit thats been sitting for years, I sure hope these aren't prone to failure with no useage.

Most, if not all of them are. The surface mount capacitors will leak and slowly destroy the board over time.

I've personally never heard of the board getting "destroyed". I know more than a few people that do the cap replacement (a simple fix if you have the tools/know how vs many other repairs). The Duo-R/RX are MUCH less prone to this (seems to be mainly the PCE/Turbo Duo's,and Super CD_Rom2's).

Well, now you have. I've fixed two different Duo board with traces ruined by leaking caps.

Ahhhhhh but coroded/eaten away/broken traces are far from a "destroyed" board...def fixable.

"Destroyed" may be hyperbole, but your average owner is incapable these kinds of repairs. If you had to hire a professional, it could get very expensive, IF you could even find someone willing to take it on (old hardware, no schematics, no service manual, no longer available parts, unknown damage due to corrosion).

I think it's in the best interests of anybody that owns a Duo to get it serviced before it gets to the point of ruined traces and components. So, "destroyed" might not be the politically correct term, but if it gets people to fix their shit before it's too late, then it works for me.

So, if I play my Duo, will that prevent it from getting "ruined"?

Also, what is involved in getting it "serviced before it gets to the point of ruined traces and components." Sh!t man, now I am nervous!

What are the symptoms that leaking capacitors cause? I sold a non-working Turboduo here that I had actually purchased new, but was from old warehouse stock that sat around for like eight years. Curious if it might just be from sitting idly.

Are you sure you're not thinking of the Turbo Grafx 16, instead? I could be wrong, but I thought Keith Courage was only packed in with the TG16.

I thought we were talking about the TG16. Can you tell I know nothing about this system? :P

Sorry.

A box TG16 can go for up to $100. A Turbo Duo is a TG16 & TG CD in one system.
