Okay, so I've heard that there is an adapter that allows you to play Famicom games on an NES. From what I gather it connects the 60 pin Famicom games into a 72 Pin adapter. So here are my questions:
1. Is this called a 60 to 72 Pin adapter or 72 to 60 Pin adapter?
2. What can I expect to pay for one?
3. Do they work on American NES systems?
4. To Ariel Andrews: How You Doin? :D

You need a 60 pin to 72 pin adapter, becasue you're going FROM 60 pin famicom carts TO the 72 pin NES system. You can expect to pay upwards of $25 on ebay for one, unless you find one cheaper somewhere else, or make one from converters found in certain NES carts. I recommend the latter method--its much cheaper.
Making your own converter is a whole other thread, but essentially, they're found inside of SOME older Excitebike, Gyromite, Hogan's Alley, and possibly other NES carts. Good luck finding one, however. I've found a few over the last couple of years, but I think I'm ahead of the curve. Just look for the above carts with 5 screws on the back, and ones that weigh more than they should. Its easy to tell weight differences by comparing similar carts. There are a myriad of sites on the net that tell you how to find, and make your own converters.
Yes, they work on US systems.

make one man 8-) u have to buy an old cart that came out when nes first came out. Gryomite. Excitebike etc. they have little converters in them. Its the black thing. what u have to do is take that out and somehow make a cart out of it. like cut the excitebike in half so the converter sticks out then u can put the famicom game in. Dont forget the ribbion to pull it out ith though. O and one tip it is i lil hard to find one. compare two carts that came out in 1985 christmas season the heavier one has the converter...but always check becasue the battery backup ones are heavier, just check the label for a gold one(probably knew that)
