I installed d2 to my computer that has windows 7 but if I try playing it, it acts REAAAALLY strange. like discolors my screen makes weird symbols at the top of my screen, random apps will run (i.e. media player) and never close down not letting you do anything. I've uninstalled d2 but it made things worse..do you think this game gave me a virus?

That sounds awesome. Right click on the shortcut to the program and run it in compatibility mode? Right click - properties - compatibility.

Compatibility mode is crap. There I said it. I haven't been able to get most of my pre-XP games to work in W7 (Diablo 1/2, Age of Empires 1/2, Doom, etc) without wacky colors. So frustrating. I've given up trying.

Did you install DirectX 9c? I heard Win 7 runs two seperate Direct X. Direct X 11 for newer games and 9 for older games.

The Battle.net forums have a possible solution:

I still don't get why people seem to have this expectation that every old piece of software will work with every version of the operating system - forever. If you're playing old games get an old system. End of story.

I'd hazard a guess it runs in a video mode most cards don't even bother including anymore.

This is more of a classic gaming than modern gaming issue :P
