I was having issues with some 72 pin connectors for some NES units I was trying to refurb. I went poking around the web to see if there were any more tricks I could find with why my 72 pin connections would not work and I found one that was quite unusual. I tried it and it did make the connector better.

What I did was cook the 72 pin connector.

First I boiled some water with soap in it. I put the 72 pin connector in there for 5 minutes. I then turned on my oven to the lowest setting (mine only went to 175). I then put the connector on a cookie sheet and put the connector in there for 10 minutes to dry.

I then let the connector cool and it does work better. I am not sure if we are allowed to post links to other boards on here, but there is where I got the idea. I can PM anyone the link to the post.

Wacky.

Yes you're allowed to post links. But we all know you got the tip off Food network.

This is similar to how you would sanatize/clean a mouthpiece for a trombone/french horn/trumpet/whatever. I'm not suprised that it works. In fact, I think it's a really neat idea!

I would say give it a fresh water rinse to get to soap off, but what do I know, I wouldn't have dreamed you can "cook" the connectors.

Dude, and you call yourself THE monkeychemist?

Otherwise, interesting finds. I'll definitely pass this along to a couple troubled NESs I know.

I saw Andrew Zimmern eat one of these. He could tell from the taste it wasn't a 1st party connector, but still delicious.
