Do I need to have an official network adaptor to hook up wireless on the 360, or is there an alternative.

You can use a bunch of alternatives - one of the cheapest is using an old Wireless Access Point. Google, man. Lots of options.

you can buy cheaper alternatives in stores even, best buy has some. I still recommend using the official g or n adapter.

I know, I did look but most of the sites I seen were to use a laptop and bridge the connection. My brother dont have a laptop so I thought you could just use a usb network adaptor but from what I am finding out you cant.

You can't use a regular usb adapter, it has to be a "gaming adapter" or one that says it's meant for the 360. linksys makes one, as well as other companies.

If you run wired I recommend you stay wired. You'll want to go back after you see that wireless sucks in comparison.
