Years ago, I got a Sega Saturn system in a trade with a bunch of games including a bunch of burned CD-R games. I believe the guy said the system was modded to play these burned copies. I am pretty sure I remember playing the copies, but I haven't taken the system out of storage in like 7 years and now I can't get the burned copies to play (everything else works fine). The system says "disc not suitable" or something like that.

There may have been a "trick" to playing them, like leaving the door open somehow, but I forget. Any ideas?

There is a swap disc method to playing burnt games on the saturn, but it's used if you have a regular unmodded saturn. I don't recommenced doing it though as I heard it messes up the lens or something over time. Maybe a wire used in the modding went bad, dunno.

NO, that is only to play different region discs...............

My Saturn is one of my older modded CD systems. I used really cheap CD-R media and now most of the games burned onto some off brand CD-Rs stopped working. I've sense downloaded .BIN .CUE data and archived it on a external HD and just burn onto good media.

There are point-and-click programs for changing the region code on a .BIN or .ISO.

However, it's unlikely that all your burns won't work so if everything is DOA then you might have something else going on.

Mines chipped and does something similar on occasion. Most of the time I just have to turn it off and on a couple of times. Assuming it is a chipped machine, have you tried burning a copy of real working game, just to check if all the burned discs have gone bad somehow? Have you tried cleaning the drive, or checking if the chip's loose?

I'm not familar enough with the swap method to know how to do it, but I assume my thrift store rescue was Swap Modded because there was tape around the door sensor part. If you can't figure it out, and feel comfortable enough, you might want to open it up and take a look at what's going on in the inside.

Its likely the CD-Rs that have since gone bad. If you open the console up you will be able to tell right away if it is modded to play CD-Rs or not.

Have you tried using the "swap trick" using any of these discs?

well, the cdr media could be bad, but those mod chips are usually made very cheaply, with very cheap circuit boards and yadda yadda yadda. those things fail over time. I've had them work perfectly fine and then just die from out of no where. they're like 5 dollar little pieces of digital equipment, so just go buy another one and re-mod!

The mod chip might have dies in it, pop the system open and take a look. Since multiple people have mentioned the swap trick I'm just gonna add my two cents on it, don't do it unless you like breaking your consoles. The swap trick works by loading up an official disc then after the TOC is read quickly rip out the disc (yes while it's still spinning) and then quickly put in the burnt copy. So not only does the burnt game not really play correctly (remember the system read the TOC of another game) but you end up breaking the motor that spins up the discs.
