Hi,

I'm going to try and get into and complete a megaman game. They've always appealed to me but i totally missed them back in the day, owning a mastersystem like most of us over here in the UK did back then.

So i guess now is the time - i'd like to try one of the NES versions as i'll mostly be playing it a bit at a time on the nesds emulator. It also seems to me that the NES versions were the 'purest' in the 'strictly-hardcore-platformer' sense of the word.

So at this point i'm lost - i've done as much research as i'd like and it seems that 2 or 3 are the versions to go with. But which is the best? am i right in saying that 2 is the most iconic but 3 is better?

Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Also........

PS FOR AMERICANS PLEASE: totally off topic - but being over here in the uk and not knowing anything about it - i've always wondered, which is it most acceptable to miss with your family -thanksgiving dinner or christmas day dinner??

thanks.

Start with 2.
Skip out on bullshit Thanksgiving.

Neither, go with 4. If you've got a new console, go with 9.

see I would say go with 3. Not just because it's my favorite, but because I think the levels are cooler than Mega man 2 and other than that it plays basiclly the same.

magnet man, gemini man, and shadow man are all really fun levels. Gemini Man. Hot damn its a nice place

I'd say get both 2 and 3, but 2 is the game I prefer by a tiny, tiny margin. Just thinking out loud, but I think the fact that the order of robot masters is a lot more flexible makes it more fun and more of a challenge for me. Also, I hate Snake Man. A lot.

And it's more acceptable to miss Thanksgiving, but you really shouldn't miss either of them.

I would probably play 3 first, it's my favorite for one, but I also think it's the most forgiving to new players, without being too easy.

Number 9 is fun for the most part, but some of the levels are really tough, and the bosses can be real bitches. It's best to go to after you've beaten some of the others first.

And I think Thanksgiving is a more important meal to be at, because that is truly the centerpiece to the whole holiday. Just dropping in for a couple hours of festivity on Christmas is acceptable, at least in my view.

MM2 was something that I played and beat over and over and over when I was but a lad. I played lots of 3 too, but I remember 2 more, so 2 wins.

And your OT question, totally depends on the family unit itself. Thanksgiving is a very finite date that pretty much everyone recognizes, while Xmas has its roots in a religion that not everyone celebrates and a bunch of other times of celebration/reflection also happen in the weeks before and after Dec 25th. Besides, depending on the family, some do Xmas eve, others do Xmas day and those that are REALLY crazy do both.

My suggestion is play them in order...2 first, then 3. Ideally, I would say start with MM1 but it wasn't an option. I'm personally more partial to MM2 but I enjoyed MM3 quite a bit as well.

I say play 3 first until you get the hang of the gameplay. The block puzzles in Heat Man's stage in Mega Man 2 will make you hate life.

Mega Man 3 is easier, so it might be a better choice for starters. Plus, it was the first one I played.

Both, but if you want your first experience to be the one made with "love", go with 2 first (plus, hey, you're going in order). Inafune and his team had to work on that game after work, at night, while working on a baseball game for Capcom during the day. 3 is good, but 2 has the magic. You can see the dedication in it.

It's definitely my favorite of the entire series. :P

I'd say 2. Both are great games, it mostly comes down to personal preference rather than which game is technically better from what I've seen. Try them both.

MM2:
-It's the easiest game in the original series but it does have some challenging levels.
-Most RM's can be beat with your regular weapon and multiple weapons are usually effective against them, rather than a single weapon.
-The best music in the original series.
-The best payoff at the end of the game, it always brings a smile.

As long as you play MM2, it doesn't really matter - right? But if I had to make a decision, play MM2 first. Why? Because it's just awesome. It's also the easiest megaman game in existence. I beat it the day I got in it, when it first came out. I was a bit pissed that it was that easy, but I did replay it the most out of all the series (well, with possibly the exception of MM1 - because it's classic).

As for the second question, it depends. Usually xmas. It's not a religious holiday anymore. But if you are of a religion that's *not* christian based, you're probably not going to celebrate it (because of the stigma attached to it). While most *non* religious people in general, still celebrate/participate in it. To me, both holidays are pretty important. But I'd hate to miss turkey day... but I'd have to miss xmas morning and miss seeing the younger ones open presents and miss spending the day with family. Both are pretty big in our family. I'd hate to have to choose.

I'd say start with the original. For some reason people don't like it but I love it. It's not the best Mega Man, but it's an amazing game.

When it comes to best Mega Man title out of 2 and 3. Mega Man 3 is by far the best one.

Also, I hate Snake Man. A lot.

Sorry, but Snake Man is a pussy. Easiest in the game. I make playing through Snake Man's stage look like a work of art, except I get hit once at the boss.

Also, Mega Man 2 is much easier than Mega Man 3. On Mega Man and Mega Man 2 you didn't have to wait for a bosses invincibility to wear off before being able to damage it again, which is a staple in the Mega Man series. This makes bosses a joke on Mega Man 2, while some will pose quite the challenge in Mega Man 3, especially the Dark Robot Masters who are the bosses from Mega Man 2. Air Man without using a special weapon is damn near impossible.

You can't really go wrong with playing the games in order, but if it's between 2 and 3, I'd say start with 2 if you need something easier and 3 if your looking for something more challenging. If you like to challenge yourself with goals such as beat the game with one life and no energy tanks, or beat the game without using special weapons except where required; Mega Man 3 will keep you busy much longer.

Dark Air Man is easy without special weapons. The real challenge is Dark Quick Man with no special weapons or energy tanks.

I have to say Mega Man 2, just because it has a special place in my heart. The first one I played so it has a big nostalgic bias against the others. But, having never played one, 3 is epic. So I would say neither would be a mistake to start with. Flip a coin! lol.

As easy as Snake Man is, he's roughly on par difficulty-wise for most of the Robot Masters in Mega Man 2. Most of them have simple patterns like Air Man, Wood Man, Bubble Man, or have reactive-based actions like Crash Man or Metal Man that are easy to avoid. Quick Man and Heat Man are probably the toughest to defeat without using their weakness.

RPA: How do you defeat Dark Air Man without using his weakness? You must be a god at the game, haha.

Defeating Dark Air Man is a simple matter of jumping between his tornadoes and shooting him when you get an opening between attacks. Patience and methodical deliberate moves help.

Also, I'm not just a god at the game, I am God. :king:

I'd say start with part one sure it's out done by 2&3,but the game has it's own charm.

Id say personally because I'm such a huge megaman fan id say st.....hey are those boobs in the post right above mine?!!!! HeH AWESOME!!!!!....Sorry anyway Start at the beginning and play 1-6 and if u like it move on to 7 on the snes. I hated 8 so i wont recommend that one. But if you ever get the chance 9 is awesome as well. I've heard people say 9 is as close to 2 as you can get and I can see where they are coming from. But Yeah man start with 1 and work your way up. If you're just looking to do this on the Nes then Definitely 1-6 they are all worth it to me.

3 is longer, harder and the stages aren't quite as polished as in 2 (many empty rooms here and there, a recurring mini-boss that is pretty boring to fight, and enemies that force you to wait for them to become vulnerable). 2 is pretty easy (there is a hard mode though unlike in later games) and lots of fun, but perhaps not as well balanced in terms of difficulty. I definitely prefer 2.

play 2 first

it is a more simple and basic game compared to 3, but it is more polished.

note: if you are playing on real hardware, then use a controller with turbo the first time through.

and for your holiday question, thanksgiving is all about food, so that is the more essential meal of the two holidays. but xmas is still the more important holiday. the xmas meal takes a back seat to gifts and other traditions that vary by family.

Play them both! If you do, then obviously play MM2 first. I honestly never completed MM3 but I played the crap out of MM2. It still stands as one of my favorite games of all time. MM2 appealed to a wider audience, but hard core fans digged 3 better it seems. I say MM2 is a NES game that needs to be played by any fan of the series.
I used to be sitting around boared and decide to beat MM2 from scratch just for kicks. Its that fun.

Also, like someone stated before, it depends on the family background which dinner is worse to skip. Religious families take Christmas far more seriously, established traditional American families hold both dinners equal. New immigrants, some Native Americans, and other foreigners don't take TG too seriously.

Play 2 first. It's got classic Mega Man gameplay, awesome music, and fun levels. Ignore anyone who says otherwise!

Go for 3 then 2. They are both really good, and I had both as a child (as well as the rest of the series for that matter), but these two are my favourites. I've always considered 3 to be the "start" of the classic Mega Man format, that is, Rush is included, etc. It seems as if Capcom was beyond the stylistic tweaks of the first two games. Furthermore, it is a bit easier, yet not a pushover.

As for the other question, I personally would say it is worse to miss Thanksgiving (at least in my case). For Thanksgiving, the whole family gets together, including relatives, whereas with Christmas, I usually spend the time with my intermediate family and grandmother, so there are less people to miss. Also, as someone else had mentioned earlier, for us, Thanksgiving revolves around the food aspect, whereas on Christmas, we may gorge ourselves, but also partake in other activities as well.

I think any Mega Man game becomes easy once you know what order to beat the bosses in.

Mega Man 2 is the best game to start with. It's easy to pick up, the music will keep you playing if you start getting frustrated with a level, and it never gets too hard. As for Heat Man's stage, if you get the rocket sled first, you don't even need to do the floating block puzzles. The only stupid parts of this game are the two bosses near the end that require specific weapon types to defeat: the sentry/security system boss requires Crash Man's weapon (you have to be as conservative as possible with your shots or you'll run out), and Wily requires Bubble Lead. Be sure to keep these at full charge near the end.

Mega Man 3 is more complicated, but equally as entertaining. I just think you'll get more enjoyment out of the third one if you've already warmed up your trigger finger with the second one first, since you'll already have all of the basic concepts down.

Would anybody recommend the Mega Man collection that was on the Xbox (and possibly the other last gen consoles) a few years back? Was it pretty good ports, or was it pretty shoddy quality? Think it had about 8 or 9 Mega Man games on it.

I have never played the xbox version, but have seen the PS2 and Gamecube versions. The ports for these two were good, as they had all of the original Mega Man games in one disc. The only downside to the Gamecube version is that they reversed the controls of the A and B buttons, and that ruined it for me. The PS2 version has the correct controls though, not sure about the Xbox.

start with 2 & 4. i think MM3's too difficult for newer MM players, it was my first MM game and i didn't get very far for a long time. it's still a great game but save it for later.

The first Mega Man had some thorughly questionable design decisions. I'd be partly inclined to suggest Mega Man Powered Up if you want something akin to the experience.

Otherwise, why not go for Mega Man: The Wily Wars on the Mega Drive? Of course, you'll probably have to emulate it on your platform of choice. Make sure you get this patch (http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/514/).

I played them both simultaneously when I was younger and I still do the same whenever I crack open the Megaman Collection for PS2.

Woah! I'm sure this is a nice game, but people really should play the NES Mega Man's over the other stuff first. Especially the two we are talking about from the OP. It's like someone who has never played a SMB looking at 1 and 3, asking which one to start with and answering, "Yoshi's Island".

YI's nice, but, obviously shove them to 1 or 3. Or in this case 2 and 3. I mean Mega Man 2 and 3. :P

You seem to be unfamiliar with exactly what The Wily Wars is.

Wily Wars has better graphics but the flaws in the game are extremely noticeable, much more so in the PAL version where your shots are incredibly slow.

I'd play the NES games over Wily Wars but if someone was to get it then I'd recommend the Japanese version over the PAL version.
