Castlevania Symphony of the Night for the Saturn sorry for making another topic but I want to know.

I mean how is it for someone who doesn't understand a word of Japanese.

I beat it a couple of times completely pretty easily back in 2001 on my own, and never played though the PS1 version. If you do get stuck at a certain part, I doubt it would be too hard to locate it in a faq and a way to pass it, or without a faq, just a little effort put in instead.

You don't need to know any Japanese to play through it, I've owned it for about 9 years now and have beaten it many times. The only thing that you won't know is the name of items that you're equipping and of course the story segments. I will add though that it does help to have played the English release though to understand the ingame menus better, especially when going to equip plot specific items or familiars.

I can also confirm that it's no problem if you can't read Japanese except in at least one specific spot (before you fight Richter). I own the English PSX version and used to own both the Japanese PSX and Saturn versions. The Saturn version is a bit pointless, though. The Playstation version is better for a few reasons and the extra two dungeons, two familiars and a playable Maria aren't really anything special; certainly not worth the cost. Dracula X on the PC Engine Super CD, on the other hand, is worth the price tag.

No worries about the couple of threads in this forum. We needed a bit of live in here. In the future, you might want to think about how to condense two things into one post. For example, you could've made a thread called "Japanese Saturn questions" or something like that.

Don't you research before buying something, or do you just waste money on impulse?

Yes I Did do research I didn't say I was definitely getting it I just said I want to get it. It is one of 3 choices I have decided upon.

I could have sworn there was an english "patched" version released online. You could consider buying a legit version for your collection and then patching and burning a copy for playing.

It is one of 3 choices I have decided upon.Well, it is a great game... just redundant if you already have the PSX version. It's more of a collector's item at this point.

Out of curiosity, what were your other two choices?

I've actually decided against getting this game but my other two choices weren't imports but they were:

Mega Man X4 and either an Action Replay or Street Fighter Collection
Guardian Heroes

I decided to get Guardian Heroes. now I still have time to change my mind though but that seems unlikely.

I have an Action Replay for the Saturn if you want to buy it. I don't have a Pro Action Replay 4 in 1 on me.

Guardian Heroes is really fun, I recommend it. It's expensive for an English version, though. Then again, if you're not worried about price, I'd recommend Guardian Heroes, Sexy Parodius (Japanese import) and NiGHTS for your three games if you don't have any games yet.

I'm currently playing thru the game now. Having beat both the US and Japanese PS1 versions, I can say very confidently that you don't need to know any Japanese to play and enjoy this classic game.

I haven't heard of a patch for the Saturn version, but I've heard of a re-translation of the PS1 version.
