I am the proud owner of a Model 1, Model 2 and 32X. This is one of the "Nice" Pre-TTMS Model 1s with the better sound chip.

On this model 1, the sound coming from the AV port on the back emits a horrendous hiss, and the 32X Does not even start when it is installed on my model 1. What can I do to as far as repair options go? Can this be fixed? What could the problem be?

OK, I'm not sure if you have this plugged in, but the Model 1 Genesis needs an adapter for the conversion cable that connects that A/V out of the Genesis, into the A/V in of the 32X. Then you plug the A/V out of the 32X into the TV. If you don't have any cable plugged in, you won't get any sound or video.

This is what you want your setup to look like:

I have a 32x that emits a hissing sound from the inside. Are you sure its your AV port thats making the sound?

Didn't the 32X come with something that plugged into the expansion port if you didn't have a Sega CD attached? Didn't the early systems need that plugged in to work with a 32X?

Maybe the solder joints are bad with the AV port, which is causing the hissing.

I do have the proper AV Cables connected up and the correct power supply. My 32X uses the 2103 Power supply that my Model 2 used. It has the correct AV Cables for the 32X and the older DIN adapter.

It breaks down like this:

Model 2 Genesis stand alone with Stereo AV: Makes quiet hiss that can only be heard when the volume is turned up loud.
Model 1 Genesis with Stereo AV: Makes Hiss loud obnoxious hiss.

Model 2 Genesis with 32X: Black screen. No output.
Model 1 Genesis with 32X: Black screen. No output.

Model 1 Genesis with RF output: No Hiss, screen blurry.

So the system doesn't work at all for you in any of your consoles?

Try the suggestions here, including the one to disassemble the unit;

The capacitors are dried up. My non-TMSS model 1 also has the loud annoying hissing/buzzing.

Console 5 sells entire kits, so I will save you time. You'll want to know which revision you have. Also, all model 1 Genesis have the same audio chip except the later SA7 revision.
