View Full Version : SNES/NES/Genesis RPG Strategy Guides
Inspired by another thread, I'm wondering what ALL of the Super Nintendo, Nintendo, and Sega Genesis strategy guides there are. I'm not counting the mail-order hint guides or hint guides that were included with the game on purchase.
I just compiled a list of the SNES guides (maybe more?), and the couple of NES/GEN guides I have. Help me out.
SNES:
Final Fantasy III
Earthbound*
Brain Lord
Breath of Fire
Breath of Fire II
Secret of Mana*
Secret of Evermore*
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Chrono Trigger
Lufia
Lufia II*
Super Mario RPG
Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest ???
NES:
Dragon Warrior IV*
Final Fantasy
Genesis:
Phantasy Star IV
Guides with * are ones I don't have yet.

Genesis:
Phantasy Star III
There were multiple versions of the Lufia guides I believe - hardbound and softbound.

Not sure if this is what you mean by mail order, but way back in the day, Nintendo Power had 4 special issues that were strategy guides. They were part of the regular subscription.
They were:
Super Mario Bros. 3
Final Fantasy
Ninja Gaiden 2? (might have been 3, not sure)
4-Player Games (this highlighted the 4 player adapter when it came out and the games for it, one was a volleyball game)

Not sure if it was included with the game, or seperate, but Dungeons & Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun for the Genesis had a hint book, albeit slightly larger than the game case width and height.
Also, how about Sega CD guides, since they are techically part of the Genesis. I have guides for Vay and Lunar: The Silver Star by Sandwich Islands Publishing. I believe there were guides for Popful Mail and Heimdall as well.
Genesis guides I own :
- Dungeons & Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun
- Ecco 2: The Tides of Time
- Phantasy Star II
- Phantasy Star III
- Phantasy Star IV
- Popful Mail
- Sonic 1 & 2 (together)
- Sonic 3
- Sonic & Knuckles
- Sword of Vermilion

He's only asking about RPG guides from those systems.
Wow, I have quite a few of those, just a couple more that I care to get.

Wouldn't the Earthbound guide not fit your criteria since it was included w/ the game. Or is there another guide that was sold seperately?
Well, yeah, the Earthbound guide came with the game. I forgot about that.
I have hintbooks, I believe, for Phantasy Star II and Sword of Vermilion that came with the game. I wasn't talking about those, though.
I will be adding Phantasy Star III to my collection.

Then I labeled just about all the North American Genesis RPG guides there are. The only other ones I can think of are for the Sega CD (Vay, Lunar 1 and 2).

I own the Heimdall guide. Pretty strange that they even bothered making an official strategy guide for such a low-profile game. The guide is even specific to the Sega CD version (although I'm not sure what the differences are between the versions).
