Bought an original Famicom, got it and when put through the RF, the picture is fine but the audio hums or buzzes.

The hum/buzz carried through even after I AV modded it.

Any thoughts/ideas?

Getting word that it may be the filter capacitor or the voltage regulator.

Fun stuff.

Well, weird as it sounds, try blowing in the microphone on controller 2 to see if the noises you make come from the TV speakers.

After that, try moving controller 2 to a different spot.

My Famicom is a total weirdo, but I can hear the audio from controller 2's microphone through my TV (maybe an intended feature?) and if it's in the wrong spot, I get some audio feedback noise (like pointing the microphone at the receiver... or whatever it was that made that horrible noise back in my elementary school plays >_<;;)

^^^ just went through this! Had a strange buzz, sat something down next to the famicom & heard a "clunk" through the stereo. Turned down the mic - buzz disappeared.

Cool to know that my Famicom isn't abnormal. Hopefully this fixes the original poster's issues too.

My Famicom also plays the audio through the 2nd player microphone. It seems to be an intended feature.
If that's your problem, simply turn it down to the lowest volume.

I had a similar problem on my Twin where the microphone would send feedback to the speakers, even with the microphone volume all the way down. The problem went away when I opened the controller and cleaned the slider track with alcohol. This will also take care of any scratchiness that may be present when adjusting the volume.

Yep, the mic was the culprit. I hate it when it turns out to be a simple solution and all my stress was for nothing.

It's bothersome, but at least it was a cheap and easy problem, right :)?

Indeed. Still need to fix a couple of minor things underneath but the end result will be a salvaged Famicom once thought to be broken.
