Shooting people in the face. Why do I always have to shoot people in the head or face? (Or really just shoot people at all) Why do I have to shoot people in the face?
I want high production games where I don't have to shoot people in the face.

I feel the same. It's kinda like the generational style of now...fps's and shooters. Back in the late 80's, early 90's, the 2D sidescrolling adventure/platformer train was the 'it' style that every game company was trying to hop on.
...I guess this is just the way it's going to be until something new catches. I like shooters and stuff as much as most people, but an oversaturation is not a good thing.

What we need is a game where you overcome your enemies with the resolve-crushing power of a firm handshake.

It's not our fault that the head is everyone's weak spot and that you have to hit it for massive damage...

Is this thread for real? If not, someone please point me to where it's mocking.
If so....nut shots would be worse. Actualy, I'd like it if there was a FPS game you used those wooden bullets or bean bag bullets. Could be based on a prison with multiple modes of play. Play as a guard, play as a prisoner. Make things real interesting by mixing in some of the strat elements of romance of the three kingdoms in by playing a warden and having to micro manage the every day aspects of prison life. Invade neighboring correctional institutions and build a prison empire!
Ok, maybe this dosnt relate to the OP's topic....

No way, dude!!! We already know that would never go over well. According to Cartman it's just flat out wrong. :D

Maybe you should play Halo where you shoot aliens instead of people. Face it games are more realistic now days and war is hell.

Just play Dead Space, its better if you don't go for the head but dismember your enemies instead. :)

But, don't you crush enemies' heads and shoot them in the face with fireballs in Mario games?

How about Sexy Poker for the Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console (VC)? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=142Uh9ArN8Y)
Get your pulse racing with a game of strip poker against a selection of six lovely manga-style women who may wind up in nothing but swimsuits or underwear when the final hand is dealt. Choose the classic Texas Hold'em Poker to be thrilled as the bets increase, or try the Black Jack game for a mix of chance and strategy. Discover the girls' personalities: they'll bluff you! Enter the photo gallery to see the pictures you've unlocked by playing and winning. If you're good enough, Emi, Sakura and their seductive girlfriends will bet their clothes to stay in the game. How about Fallout 3? You can choose which part of the body you're shooting.

Why don't you play games where you do not shoot people (halo, gears of war, left for dead,RE5,) stuff like that. Also are you 5? are you not a adult that can handle a video game. What about people overseas killing people in real life? They are the people who should be writing post like this not someone about a video game. I think if you do not wanna shoot people don't buy the game.

Headshots aren't what bothers me. Video game violence isn't a problem either -- it's not real. It's a game.
What DOES bother me is that the only kind of game that seems to be popular anymore is extreme violence and headshots. Shooters are fun and all. I just get really tired of them being the only thing people talk about.
RPGs aren't even the same anymore. They're all the action-based "western" style, and no classic-style, turn-based jRPGs. They're out there, of course, but they're not what sells, and so they've become more and more scarce.
I guess this is why I'm a member of a forum about RETRO gaming. Because new games (for the most part -- there are some real modern gems) suck.

And this is exactly why I love games like Katamary, Pixel Junk series, Super Mario Galaxy etc... awesome games... without having to shoot people all the time. People have forgot that a game is supposed to be exactly that.. a GAME... not necessarily a violence simulator. Echochrome is as much an awesome game as Uncharted 2 in my book. Different games yes... but both on the same level in my eyes.
But I also play Battlefield 2 on a competitive level so yeah.. I still like headshots =)

How in the hell is this a modern gaming phenomenon?
I've been shooting people in the face in videogames since I first played Wild Gunmen and Contra on the NES.

Not always. Sometimes you have to flip enemies over on their back and attack their weak point for massive damage. Like a giant enemy crab's stomach.

I agree, I don't need more and more gorey, realistic violence to enjoy a game. I prefer New Super Mario Bros Wii over any other current-gen game.

Now I love a good RPG but they are getting to feckin ridiculous proportions now with the cut scenes - it feels sometimes that you are going through a 40 hour cut scene with a couple of battles thrown in for good measure.
Give me back Suikoden.....

There's a wide selection of games, more than ever. Don't like it, don't buy it, simple! There's still platformers, puzzle games, sports games, and so on.If you want a shooter to be less realastic, yeah, you have to go to a simpler time with Doom, Wolfenstein, and Duke.

Virtua Cop gave you extra points for non-fatally disarming an enemy, no? I'm guessing there haven't been many other games like that.

I would hardly consider the modern generic military fps to be anything close to realistic. For the most part, they're just prettier versions of Quake. Few have proper location-specific damage or injury models, and most have magical Wolverine health regeneration. The physics engines are incredibly simplistic, and the AI is mostly silly.

It isn't that these games exist that bothers me. It's just that almost every high production game that comes out has the violence cranked up. I just find it unsettling shooting someone who looks and acts very real in the face, or when they are unarmed, etc.
The only other alternative seems to be very light/casual/party games. I still want games with some meat and story.

Well, there are also games where you hack people up with swords.
