Hey everyone,
I have been sitting on a sealed copy of NBA Live '98 for the Genesis. I thought nothing of it until I noticed it wasn't coming up on any recent eBay searches. Then I checked the guide here and saw that it was a 5 for scarcity amongst the consoles it was released on. Is there any reasoning behind this and would it still only be worth $5-10 even though it's sealed? Thanks!

Open, loose or sealed, a sports game is still a sports game! If you find the right buyer I would assume that you could get the 10-15 you listed, but you would have to "find the right buyer".

Thanks, yeah I don't expect to get anything out of it. I was just more curious as to the scarcity number it received. It shows that it was released very late in 1998, so maybe there was developer/licensing issues. I just like to know the fun back stories.

It's one of the harder to find sports games, but as rpepper said, it's still a Genesis sports game. If you want to gamble, have VGA grade it and maybe some moron will buy it for $100. :P

I have no idea of the value of this game, sealed or not, but it's wrong to assume that just b/c it's a sports title, it's worthless, even a Genesis sports title. Heck, there are two Madden games that are worth decent money, one of which is ON the Genesis (that would be Madden '93 Championship Edition). There are several other sports games that are just as valuable on other consoles. Granted, most sports titles are indeed worthless, but not all of them.

Well, Madden Championship was a rental-only (Blockbuster only?) game, so it makes it a bit more valuable.
I hear World Series Baseball '95 for 32X was also pretty valuable.

Buster Douglas Boxing for the Master System is another one. To a lesser extent, Mutant League Hockey and Mike Tyson's Punch-Out (tho you could argue neither one is a true "sports" game in that they don't attempt to accurately recreate the experience of playing the sport in question). There's also a couple others that I always forget about (Jimmy Connor's Tennis?) for the NES.

I've sold a few ultra-common factory-sealed sports Genesis titles on Amazon for a decent buck ($10-20). Basically any sealed game from that era has SOME value, regardless of its common rarity.
