I am looking to buy a Genesis controller extension to use on my Atari 2600 and i seen they sell official Genesis ones and some 3rd or 4th party ones. Are those cheaper ones any good?
I was looking at these.

Well i guess nevermind, i bought them anyway. I tried to find reviews on these things but none to be found. But i read the dozens of Ebay Feeback comments from people who bought them from him and nothing but positive comments. I guess that's good enough. X_x

The only functional difference between the genesis extension cables and some of the older atari/commodore ones is that that the genesis cables are guaranteed to have all nine conductors, while some of the others only have six or seven.

No big deal not having the official cable, it's just a cord after all. I've never seen a bad extension cable and have a few 3rd party ones myself, don't worry about it.

Yeah I might have to get one of these someday because the Genesis controller cord is short as hell. What the hell were they thinking? I mean most of my other controllers like my NES and SNES and PS2 controllers have so much wire while the Genesis has like no wire. I mean the video cable is longer than the controller cable! That's just sad.

I've never noticed it being short.

What the hell were they thinking? They were thinking about the Japanese market and that at the time, they were the LONGEST cords on the market! I mean, the other options were the Famicom (incredibly short), PC Engine (very short) and their own Mark III.

If your sig wasn't proof enough, this would be plenty of proof that you don't own a TurboGrafx 16 ;)
Shortest. controller. cable. ever.

I don't know, the Colecovision gives it a run for its money. :-D Unless you're cool like me and have the Super Action Controller.

Under that logic you also have the Intellivision. Still, I think the Turbo grafx is shorter. Mine is next to the tv I use it on, and it's like I'm staring straight into the tube when I play. That's Short.

The TG16 does have long power and RF cables though, you're supposed to have it on the floor in front of you I think... the same idea as those other old systems I guess, such as the Intellivision and Colecovision. In all of those cases it's a horrible, horrible design decision, but I think the idea is that you have the system on the floor in front of you.

You're right. Back when I first got my Genesis we kept it on the coffee table in front of the couch and kept the games beside it, I didn't have to go up to the TV to change the games. That's how the older systems were designed, most people didn't have huge entertainment centres to store a whole bunch of stuff all hooked up to the TV, back then you maybe had a VCR and a single video game console hooked up. The TV was just on a small stand with space for the VCR underneath. That's how it was for me anyway.

I searched all over and finally found the best thing ever. . .
. . . an extension cable for the Turbografx 16. As already stated, the cables for tg16 are probably 3 feet long. It's a joke.
Genesis controller cables could be longer, but it isn't terrible.
I think, at the time, game companies never anticipated large screen televisions and massive entertainment centers with several components would become the norm. I think they just expected their systems to be hooked up to a 13" TV in the den or basement.

I think I will get another set of those controller extensions since I took the ones off my Genesis to use on my atari and dont want to keep switching them back & forth. Since I got the Atari 2600 Harmony Cart, I have been playing atari non-stop.
Anyone got a good source for SNES extensions?
