kaychoro writes "There may be hope for Duke Nukem Forever (again). 'Jon St. John, better known as the voice of Duke Nukem, said some interesting words during a panel discussion at the Music and Games Festival (MAGFest) that took place January 1 – 4 in Alexandria, Virginia, according to Pixel Enemy. Answering a question from the crowd regarding DNF, St. John said: "... let me go ahead and tell you right now that I'm not allowed to talk about Duke Nukem Forever. No, no, don't be disappointed, read between the lines — why am I not allowed to talk about it?"'"http://games.slashdot.org/slashdot-it.pl?from=rss&op=image&style=h0&sid=10/01/09/0456232 (http://games.slashdot.org/story/10/01/09/0456232/emDuke-Nukem-Foreverem-Not-Dead-Yes-This-Again?from=rss)

I did have a feeling, as I pointed out in another thread, that this game now actually has a better chance of coming out since the original team was canned.
Now the game will actually progress and move forward instead of turning into just a massive tech demo.
It makes sense that word is slowly slipping since the team is gone, but with how much work has been done on this game, it would make sense that they could just get another team, put them in a direction with a clear endpoint and actually finish the game

I read an article about the development history of DNF, and yeah, it's better off in the hands of someone else. Most of the original 3D Realms staff were either gone or had a reduced role in development anyway, and the guy in charge just didn't know what the hell he was doing.

Does anyone honestly care about this game in any way though? I mean I enjoyed the original, but there are so many other games that have covered the same ground better and more recently that there literally seems like there is almost nothing they could do to make this any more interesting than the dozens of other shooters that come out each year. If they had delivered 5-6 years ago, it might have been interesting, but as it is, I really feel like it's better off dead.

The developers certainly have an uphill battle ahead of them given the stigma that the title carries, but I don't think it's hopeless.

But will the world actually end if it ships?
Now there's something to ponder.......

It was in development for 12 or 13 years....DNF just needs to die.

I'd rather play "Serious Sam 3" or even "Serious Sam HD".

Grandstanding to keep him relevant.
They'll probably shovel a game right out just to end the whole "Forever" thing, otherwise that's exactly how long this charade will go on.

I am eagerly waiting for the game to be released.
I have played the earlier games of Duke Nukem.
I believe that the team needs to work on the game's graphics.

I'd love to see Duke Nukem Forever released as an art game.
Play through the history of FPSes from the Quake II engine on up to current stuff! Man, someday this dream will come true.
Anyway, I'm sure there'll be a new Duke from somebody or other once they get the rights sorted out. 3DR was complaining about Take Two trying to wrangle the rights away but ultimately they might have decided to sell it to somebody so it could get released (and to finally generate some revenues on their end). Also, Joe Siegler must be kicking himself every day now for not putting the hammer down on George.
is that how 2012 happens?
I always assumed 2012 was going to be like Capcom's Last Duel: Inter Planet War 2012. We have two years to get some scantily clad princesses about!

They should bring Duke back the same way Bubba Ho-tep brought back Elvis. Way past his prime, fat, and stuck with a walker. Could be funny.

Although I have never played any of the Duke games I will second this. This whole thing has gone on so long that it is one big fat fucking running joke.
Although "Eat Lead" wasn't the best game I've ever played I got some serious laughs out of it (especially with the Achievements). And, yes, they even poked fun at DNF.
The Duke is dead. Long live hazard time.....
