Does anybody know what you're supposed to say into the microphone playing the Disk System version of Kid Icarus to haggle with the shopkeepers? I'm finding the FDS version to be quite challenging because I can't afford any items without haggling. Stage 3, the cakewalk level from the US version, is seriously aggravating when Pit is underequipped.

Thanks in advance!

I thought you were supposed to audibly cry into the microphone for the discount.

I have the GBA version. Is there anything like a code I could use to get the shopkeepers to drop prices on that platform?

I heard about this, and I tried to use the haggling technique, but eventually gave up. Never played the NES version, so I have no comparison, but it was sort of difficult all through. Maybe actually being able to afford some items would have helped?

Well, in the U.S. NES revision, one can haggle with shopkeepers (not black marketeers) by pushing A and B on controller 2 at the same time. Either the shopkeeper will back down and drop his prices or get angry and raise them. Since the GBA doesn't really offer a microphone or a controller 2 port, you might be S.O.L.

I've played a lot of the NES Kid Icarus in my day, to the point where playing through the entire thing is not much of a challenge anymore, but this FDS version is kicking my ass. 1-3 and 3-2 can only be passed with precision and luck. I have a feeling it's just a tad bit tougher in general, regardless of the haggling trick. That seems counter-intuitive, because the trend at the time as to beef up the difficulty for a Western release, not make it easier. Hmm...
