If this is under the wrong category, I apologize. Please feel free to move to another topic if neccessary.

I am exploring the possibility of picking up a PS3, more for the BluRay and Netflix streaming possibilities than the gaming side of things, but naturally I will pick up a game for the system from time to time. But in doing so I have decided to trade in or sell my used PS2.

After stopping in the Gamestop near me I learned that I would get $20 for the system. The system was purchased used in excellent condition and it has rarely been played by me over the years and it is still in very good condition. I have just one controller and was wondering if I would have a chance of getting more than $20 for it somewhere else.

ebay? Selling forum? Offer it on Twitter/Facebook?

Any expert analysis would be welcomed as I plan out my PS3 budget. Thanks in advance!

Up here in Canada, EB-Games / Gamestop will only give $10 for a fat and $13 for a slim PS2. My back room is saturated with over 75 slim ps2's alone.

The best you can probably do is to offer it on Craigslist. With a couple games I'd look to get around 50 for it. I haven't sold one in a while, and prices have really been dropping fast over the last 5 or 6 months, so while I've taken that into account some, you may not even be able to get 50. Still, 40 seems like it would be pretty reasonable from what I've been seeing advertised.

Give it to GS before they sober up, or forego the $20 and keep the PS2.

Well, new ones are still in production and sold for $99. Craziness indeed!

The local non-GS store around here had them for $39.99 up until this year when they moved them to $49.99, slim or fat.

You probably wont get much for it no matter which way to go to sell. I'd seriously consider hanging onto it for that amount.

I think you can get at least $30 or $40 depending on if there's any games to put w/ it or not. Just post an ad on Craigslist, that's gotta be your best bet.

I sold a few this summer bundled with a few crappy games and was able to get $70-90 shipped buy it now on eBay for each one.

Haven't sold one since then though and I price on the high side and wait it out so no idea if you would be able to get that much.

Your best bet would be to market it towards people that really aren't that aware of going rates. Sell it via a garage sale, fleamarket or through the regular newspaper or pennysaver circular ad. Bundle a few games with it and a grandma or something might pick it up as a cheap gift.

Thanks for th advice everybody! Combined with the feedback I received on Twitter I think I am going to just go with a listing on Craigslist or try my luck on ebay.

Im seeing some high prices from people. The fat ps2 systems these days are worth about $35, and the slims maybe $40-45.

The thing is, Gamestop sells the fat PS2 for, I think, $60 and the slim for $70 (or some ridiculous high numbers). So anyone that isn't terribly savy would think $40 was a good price for a fat.

I don't know about black friday, all I know is that when I passed by it in the mall, they had a display outside w/ boxes of all the consoles (not the actual boxes, just... green I think?... display boxes w/ the titles of the consoles) stating how much each one was new and used. In fact, I think the Gamecube was listed at $29 which surprised me. I can't GIVE those things away.

Just bundle with crappy worthless games and you can get 50 shipped for a gc.
