View Full Version : Update: $10 well spent... Eggerland Meikyuu no Fukkatsu beat

This is an update to an old post I couldn't seem to find...

Eggerland: Meikyuu no Fukkatsu has been beaten, stomped on, set on fire, and I'm in the process of pissing on it's ashes. Two days ago, my mother became, in all likelyhood, the first person in North America to beat the game. Minutes ago, I joined her.

In one of the most sureal moments in my gaming experience, you fight the last boss turn-based RPG style. Yep, RPG style in a puzzle game. Thankfully my previous experience playing imported RPGs gave me a chance to beat it... however, since my mom beat it and also was knocked down to 1 hit point, I'm guessing the fight is rigged so that you can't die.

Let me go on the record saying that of all the video games I've ever played and all my accomplishments as a gamer, beating this game tops the list. After Jophro told me how to beat that one level, all the similar levels turned out to be quite easy. Some of the levels were downright cruel in the amount of perfect timing, dexterity, and patience that they required to beat... some levels took days, some levels took months off my life. The words "Fucker" "Fuck" "Shit" and "Cocksucker" became my primary vocabulary while I was playing the game.

Beating Eggerland Meikyuu no Fukkatsu was not easy. The war has been won, but not without casualties. Two Dreamcast Controllers were destroyed, one memory card ruined, one shirt ripped off my body. My thumb is heavily blistered. My wife thinks I've lost it.

I've beaten Contra on three lives. I've beaten Startropics in one day without taking a single hit... ok, that last one was pretty tough, but it happened fast and there was a lot of luck involved. This time, there was no luck. And although I needed the intelligent Jophro to help me solve one incredibly stupid early level, I still feel a sense of accomplishment.

But as with every great game, I am left with a loss. By beating Eggerland, I have put myself down to one Lolo game that I haven't beaten... an Eggerland game for the Famicom Disk System. Knowing that there will likely never be another Lolo game leaves me feeling empty inside. I shall approch my final Lolo game with a sense of dread. The end is near. The battle is nearly over. A battle I don't want to end.

I'd still like to know about those two levels I PM'd you about. :)

In the meantime, I have completed the preliminary work on a translation patch for Eggerland Meikyuu no Fukkatsu (that is, I've found the pointer table and completed a table file).

There is a translation patch (http://donut.parodius.com/?func=trans&platform=fds&gamekey=4) for FDS Eggerland, but as I recall, it's the smallest patch ever: it just cleans up the title screen. The readme, however, makes reference to something called "Eggerland: Souzou heno tabidachi", which appears to be a second FDS game (http://www.hallab.co.jp/corporate/works/fcd/fcd_04.html) released about a year and a half after the original FDS Eggerland, for those FDS rewriting systems. Babelfish translates its title as "Going on a Journey to Eggerland Creation"; it might just be a level construction kit.

Have you completed Eggerland Mystery for the MSX? There was also an Eggerland Mystery 2 for the MSX which seems to be available here (http://xydirect.com/msx/ShortComents.asp?IdRom=egger2). I assume you're familiar with the Japanese-only Game Boy game.

I have also found evidence of a fanmade PC game called Opplossing Eggerland. In fact, I found a homepage for it at some point (the graphics were a bit primative), but I don't know where it is now. It seems that it was released on a European magazine's coverdisk at some point...

Ah, here (http://members.home.nl/psion/software.html) we are. I think this might be the one I saw someone playing on a Palm a while ago; a search for Eggyland turns up a pile of links. (Or there might be yet another Palm game altogether!)

(I am spending way too much time on this.)

You can always take your frustrations out on Lolo and Lala by playing Kirby's Dream Land or Kirby Super Star. They're in both games as bad guys. >:)
On a semi-related note, did you know that Lolo and Lala make cameo appearances in the cartoon Kirby: Right Back At 'Ya? They've altered their names a bit but the characters are essentially the same.

Here's a question: are Lolo and Lala supposed to be siblings? I remember that some issue of Nintendo Power referred to them as brother and sister, but this same issue put hearts around the screenshots of Lolo rescuing Lala. Creepy.

Indeed they were... It was very clever, the way they used emerald framers as weapons. Technically, they were called Lololo and Lalala, though. They were also featured in Kirby's Avalanche (the Puyo Puyo/Mean Bean Machine clone).

I hope Charlie's still coming back some time, because there's another level I can't quite figure out. (The translation project has somewhat stalled due to my inability to find someone who is both capable with the Japanese language and who has sufficient time.)

Anyway, I'm not quite sure which level you're referring to. Do you know its coordinates on the map?

Do you have any idea where I can find more information on the Eggerland games? I always loved the Lolo series here in the US, but I never thought to look at the imports.

I'd love to see more about these games, or maybe even where I could purchase them. I did a quick search on eBay and turned up nothing at all. Google only turned up a couple screens of the MSX games.

To arrive to this level, you have to enter a door that leads to a room with four locked doors. Once you unlock these doors, a new door is available. After you enter it, you have the mentioned level.

Anyway, ask me for your level, so you reach mine, and we are all happy.

PD: Hang on JWkobayashi, I have this page for you... In another computer is the adress, and I can't remeber it.

Well, there's always my old review of EMF (http://www.digitpress.com/reviews/eggerland.htm). The link to HAL's Japanese website (http://www.hallab.co.jp/corporate/works/fc/) is particularly useful.

Anyway, I still don't know which level you are referring to. The level which is presently puzzling me is the fourth from the left in the top row. (You did pick up the map near the start of the game, right? The one that appears when you press B?)

I don't remember quite well the details of the level, but I remember the trick: you must pick up the hearts, and then run to the chest. ¿The dragons fire at you? Use the skull. Make him follow you, at a minimum distance. Then, when the dragon's shooting zone is over, turn kickly and fire the skull. Then Bingo!

Note: You must arrive to this instance with a single shot.

That's one shiny website. (Is it the same Charlie?)

Anyway, I wish I'd thought of that. Off I go...

Nice... thanks!!

Considering all of them other than Lolo 2 were different than the american versions, I'd say it'd be worthwhile to play them all... :D
