You know I REALLY REALLY want to like The Sims, in fact I LOVE IT! Great addictive gameplay, has a real sense of accomplishment..... wait, well, that's what it would have if they didn't constantly supply cheat codes so you can get max $$, almost all items, best house, max mood with one click.

I admit I don't waste my time with The Sims when it is just so damn easy to enter those cheat codes and max everything out right away.

You could use the same criticism on every Sim game since SimCity.

So... You are saying that you hate a game because its too easy to cheat? LOL

Yea my advice is DON'T CHEAT!

I've played the sims games since they came out and was never tempted to cheat. And yes, it would be boring to play that way. But to hate a game because you don't have the self control not to cheat is, well, idiotic.

Is it really that hard to not cheat? I mean...you can use this argument for just about any game ever made.

"I hate Grand Theft Auto III because it's just so easy to press in those button combos to get a tank, extra armor, max health, weapons, and no wanted level."

Seriously...it's like saying you hate any game that had compatability with the Game Genie or Game Shark.

Yeah, but everyone and their grandma don't have those. They make the cheat codes for The Sims readily available in the development of the game.

When you buy The Sims you might as well get an insert saying "oh btw here are your cheats HAVE FUN!", that would save the trouble of people even having to look up the commands online!

I find the cheats in the Sims no different then cheats like the Konami code or the GTA style ones. Its all much the same thing. Do you hate those games for having cheats that require simple input? Same goes with SimCity games. All of these games have programmed cheats that require you to look up the codes. Its called self-control. If cheating is ruining the experience, then dont do it.

Its like saying being sober is fun but its always ruined because its so easy to buy a case of beer.

A fair point, but even removing the Game Genie and Game Shark from the equation, TONS of games have easily findable cheats. If you were to not play every game that has some sort of easy cheating built in, you'd find a huge swath of games that you couldn't play.

In fact, I have to wonder how many of them were discovered in the first place, or if word was just quietly leaked from the developers one way or another.

A query: is it better to leave such cheating options as unlockables, such that you can only access them once you've gotten really good at the game without cheating?

The reason I hate "The Sims" ...

There's no way for me to beat you at it.

The thing I hate about Solitaire is that you're supposed to keep most of the cards faced downward at the beginning, but right from the beginning of the game you have the ability to cheat and look at what the value of the cards are. You are also given the cheat to not only take every third card if you don't want to. If I see the Ace, I can play it illegally and the game isn't programmed to stop me. Terribly programmed game. How am I supposed to resist?

I always used the money code in The Sims and still had a lot of fun playing it, then again I used to always ruin their lives and created bizarre love triangles. I never used the other cheats tho, so I still managed everything else the hard way (still make them go to work ect..), since I felt giving them an endless amount of money was enough.

Then again you don't have to sit there montoneously making your cards go take a shit or a piss or make dinner. There is nothing lost cause the only thing gained in the first place was a quick thrill. The Sims is like a hell you live in and that time spent in hell is supposed to be rewarded and anyone with a lick of sense ain't gonna sit there and do all that when they know Joe Schmo got everything in one click of the key.

I can understand the reference but the context is completely different imo, same goes with Grand Theft Auto comment as those cheats "enchance" the experience, totally different.
