View Full Version : Borderlands dupe trick!

Forgive me if this has been posted before, but my buddy and I discovered an item duplication trick in the Xbox360 version of Borderlands that isn't listed on Gamefaqs! It requires a friend, so find a pal to play with first.
Here's how it works:
Say your friend has an item you want, but he isn't willing to give it to you. Start a single player game, then invite your friend to your game. Now when you both spawn, don't move too far from the starting point. If you trigger an autosave pole, the trick won't work.
Have your friend toss his coveted item(s) on the ground. Don't pick it up yet...just tell him to quit his game immediately. Now pick it up. You've got it, so save your game if you want to. The catch here is that since your friend didn't save his game after tossing his item, his file won't remember that he dropped it. As such, when he starts his game again (or rejoins yours) he'll find the item back in his inventory!
This is a useful thing to do with highly valuable items because you can sell them for a quick buck, or use them as leverage in trades with other players. If you're hardcore, you can get the Mad Moxie's underdome DLC and store your duplicated items in the item bank for a rainy day.
It shocks me how easy this was to do, and I'm pretty surprised that Gearbox didn't think of this during development. Whatever. More cash for me!!!
Enjoy, guys!

Ruining gold farmers since 2004, eh? :bigmac:
Out of left field, but has anybody seen people offering to sell stuff for Borderlands for money? I hope not, but knowing people it'll happen.

I don't like cheating really, but after hearing Ed's post. If people start buying stuff on Borderlands for real money, I might farm good items and then do this.

Actually it has been mentioned there, numerous times.
You know duping is way too prevalent in Borderlands now when people give away modded weapons for free. Not new to such games but what was new, to me anyways, are the viral modded shields. They'll equip themselves automatically without you having to pick them up, whether you wanted it or not. It's acts like a mutated form of money, so that anyone that picks up 'white' money from the ground everyone in the goup gets the viral shield. It'll occupy the shield slot simultaneously with whatever shield you already had there. The shield is tricky to get rid of since it can't be dropped from the equipped item screen, it'll just drop more viral money/shields. Doesn't appear listed in the backpack inventory either, not until you unequip it. Once unequipped it then appears in inventory and then can be dropped and gotten rid of.

Yeah hopefully they patch all this crap soon. It works on PS3 also.
If someone comes on my game and uses one of those weapons that shoots like 100 or so rockets I boot them immediately.

Yeah, I'm sure on the forums people are aware of it, but when I checked it wasn't listed in the Cheats or Codes section.
I've only really played this game with people I know, so thankfully I haven't experienced any of those modded weapons. I dealt with too many dicks playing left4dead so I gave up on matching up with random people. They've always got some kind of agenda. I donloaded the Nectaris remake for PS3. The only people I meet on there are people after trophies. How about just...ya know, playing the game? Cause I'm sick of playing the computer?
Anyway, I thought I was pretty clever figuring out this little glitch, but it just goes to show you--there's always somebody ahead of you.

Pretty pathetic ain't it?
I haven't done any of this nor will I, but it's pretty bad if they allow this kinda junk to continue for sure. Time to start patching and/or banning is what I say. So yeah anyway.... your tip would have been pretty cool if it wasn't for teh state the game is in (full of hacks).
I will admit though, these videos are pretty funny:

Hah! The loot spewing out of the toilet was beautiful.
Well, that sucks. It is kind of interesting how they do it though. I think if people want to do that stuff in their single player game, that's fine. It's when they bring that into mulitplayer games (esp with people they don't know!) that I have a problem.
And I agree, they need to start banning this stuff.

this glitch is ridiculous. I'm starting to distrust single player leaderboards.

Jingle Cats again? It's been awhile since you used that one.
Totally off topic, but nobody's said Calm the Beef Min in awile. I was thinking of resurrecting it.
