On the Sega CD DP list, there seem to be two versions of Night Trap; the original, and the re-release. Assuming you do not have the original packaging, is there any way to tell which version of this game you have? Also, what changes were made to the re-released program?

I believe they are the same, but I only have the original release.

I think they toned down on some of the movie clips in the seond verison.Like the part where the girl is getting ready to take a shower,If I remember right in the original verison they show her in a braw and in the second verison they show her in a nightgown. They had to cut down on some the FMV's in the game or at least give it a rating because of the courts and senetors Joe Lieberman and Herb Kohl did not want violent video games on the market or at least not without some kind of rating which is what happened with "Night Trap" the second verison was the first game to get a M rating by the ESRB and the first verison got a MA-17 by sega's rating system.

I remember the controversary so very well. It can about because
some group deemed Night Trap as soft porn. SEGA then pulled
the offending title. But then 8 months later SEGA quietly re-released
Night Trap. At least according to Game Pro as I have not seen either
version. Execpt for the cover art there is no differance with the earlier
release. But and I got this from a friend whose a bigger game freak
than even me. There is also a PC version out there, my friend is unsure
if it was only released outside of the US or what. But that version
is truely soft porn.

I've been meaning to play through the different versions of Night Trap and note any changes in the video clips for a LONG time, although I still need to obtain both Sega CD versions (I have PC, 3DO, and 32X -- traded away my Sega CD copy long, long ago) Unless anyone knows of a website where any differences have already been documented?

I know the 32x Cd version of "Night Trap" is the uncut/directors cut of the game, same with the PC version. :D

Which version of Night Trap is the best in terms of Video and Sound quality?

I had heard that the 3DO version had a much larger viewing window, but other than that, I don't know.

The 3DO version is the best-looking, but the PC version has DP's self-produced "Dangerous Games" documentary about the controversy surrounding the game. It's MUCH too short, alas; there's enough of a story behind Night Trap to ramble on for two hours, but I don't think the docu hits the ten-minute mark. (Could be wrong, but that's my fading recollection of its length.) The highlights are an interview with the actress who portrayed Lisa, she of the skimpy negligee, and a brief bit of behind-the-scenes footage (of which I could never, ever get enough).
