In the context of Classic Gaming, if you had one wish/dream, what would it be? For example, Sega was successful with the Dreamcast and was still in the hardware industry, or something of that sort.

For me, I wish that Nintendo would release a console that was fully backwards compatible with everything they have ever put out. So a Wii-N64-SNES-NES-Virtual Boy-Gameboy/Pocket/Color/Advance-DS!!!! 8D *drools*

XD What about you guys?!

I can think of a lot of wishes of things that could have been or could be.. Right now I'd say I wish Sega would have actually bothered to release their Super Game Boy competitor device for Game Gear games. With all the crazy crap they were putting out in the early to mid 90s you really think that one would have made it out the door.

I wish that sprite-based games weren't a dying art form. A lot of popular game genres from my youth have all but disappeared because they "don't work in 3D." If they don't work in 3D, why not just make them look absolutely amazing in two dimensions? I'd still buy them.

Yeah, definitely wish console gaming still had 2D games made for it. Wish that RPGs weren't all going the way of being action-RPGs. Wish the Dreamcast had succeeded. Wish there had been more RPGs on the Saturn here in the US. Wish Sega would make a sequel to Phantasy Star IV... and translate the PS2 Sega Ages Phantasy Star games... Wish the Turbo Grafx had been a huge success back in the day so NEC would still be making consoles... I guess if I had one wish I'd wish for more wishes. XD

Far East of Eden (RPG) in any form/system actually got translated and came out.

Phantasy Star (I, II, III, IV) Sega Ages got translated and released.

Sega was still in the console business.

All video games are $10 or less.

All video games are $10 or less.

Be careful what you wish for. Sure, some rare and expensive games wouldn't be so expensive (because they're awful), but the rarity of other games would shoot up since few would want to sell Panzer Dragoon Saga, Radiant Silvergun or Dicing Knight for $10 a pop (just as examples).

I wish Hudson would release a new console thats as kick ass as the PS3 but still plays all the PC-Engine stuff. I want a machine that is designed purely for eye candy addicting arcade games. It will come with a pack-in vertical shmup that has optional 3D glasses mode, and so much crap on screen you think you're having a seizure.

and comes with a sweet air zonk helmet.

It will be called The Hudson Bee Hive, and will be bright yellow with a futuristic honeycomb shape, and the Bee on it. You will have access to tons of awesome downloadable games.

You know, a GOOD 3D video game set-up would be pretty sweet. Something in COLOR (not just red and black), and some decent games sounds pretty awesome.

Hudson never made any game consoles. NEC made the Turbografx.

better stick to being an SNES expert.

Hudson developed the stuff. The CPU ain't called a HuC6280 for nothing.

-Sega had stayed in the console business
-Camelot had continued to develop shining titles, with SF III's 3 scenairo's seeing an English release
- Skies of Arcadia/Chrono Trigger would see a new sequel.

Agreed. The Super Game Boy and the Game Boy Player were two of the greatest devices that Nintendo developed. I've often felt what a shame it was that Sega didn't release something similar that allowed Game Gear games to be played on the Genesis (or any other of their consoles). Missed opportunities.

too bad the gamegear didnt just have composite out!

did they maybe not release the thing because the gamegear was already color/backlit and didn't offer as much incentive to own as the super gameboy?

- Definitely wish 2D sprite based games weren't going extinct. But then I'm always getting mad that these days they focus only on graphics but the fun factor comes last.

- I wish Earthbound 64 would have been completed and released in America.

- For that matter I wish there were more RPGs on N64

- I'm new to the Dreamcast, but I too wish it would have succeeded.

- I wish Geno from Super Mario RPG would have more appearances.

- I'm not sure if this counts, but I wish Rare and Nintendo were still together.

- I wish there were more installments in the Donkey Kong Country series. I consider DK64 to be the fourth one, but dang it I want a fifth.

I wish that:

-Sonic X-Treme was finished and released.
-That the Saturn was a successful console.
-That SEGA was still in the hardware business.
-That there were more 2D games and less 3D ones.
-That Konami made another installment in the Ninja Turtles beat-em-up franchise.

I wish that

-The Sega CD had more 2d games developed for it.
-More good Japanese games were localized in a language I can understand.
-More Wonderswan games ported over to the GBA.
-All CD format games were region free. All games for that matter.
-The Dreamcast lasted longer.

-That Street Fighter II would've came out for the Turbografx-16 and had been an exclusive to it (or a timed exclusive), the Konami PCE games had been released in the west, the Turbo CD had been affordable and the pack-in game had been something decent (Blazing Lasers or Alien Crush) and that there would've been a European release. Then we might've had a 3-way 16-bit war in the west. It would've been much more interesting and the PC-FX wouldn't suck so badly.

-That the Sega CD would've been able to pump out 256 or 512 colours on screen at once and focused more on good 2D games instead of that FMV crap. The Sega CD could've been much more successful, negating the idea of the 32X and giving consumers more faith in Sega when the Saturn came out. The Sega CD was the beginning of the downfall of Sega, but it could've been avoided if they would've had a grasp on what gamers actually wanted and enjoyed at the time. If the Sega CD would've been successful, Sega could've kept it going and we would've seen:

-Shenmue III

I don't know about that specifically, but I do think Nintendo is letting money sit on the table by not releasing a run of NES, SNES and N64 consoles to compete with the various Yobo-style clones that are around. Imagine something like the RetroDuo, but with the kind of build quality that Nintendo is known for, and with the benefit of full compatibility. Maybe it would be a touch more expensive than the current clones, but I bet it would sell at least as well if not better. The obvious problem is that Nintendo doesn't cater to the specialty market, and if they can't mass produce and mass market a device like they can with the DS, then they aren't going to do it.

By the same token, I wish one of the current clone makers would put out a solution for the PC-Engine/TurboGrafx Super CD. The CD sound on my TurboDuo is pretty shot, replacement systems are crazy expensive, and I have yet to find a workable emulation solution (which wouldn't be my preference anyway). This is probably the biggest thing on my wish list. Also consider this very easy, but never-gonna-happen solution - Hudson releases a TurboDuo emulator to WiiWare where you would put in an original SuperCD into the Wii, and it would play the disc using the same emulation as on Virtual Console.

I wish more time and thought were put into E.T. (2600). Maybe if it was released as a kick-ass game and not a rush job all of those copies would've sold and Atari would still be a powerhouse today. Maybe the video game crash of '83 never would've happened. Maybe the market wouldn't have been primed for the breath of fresh air that was the NES. Maybe Nintendo never became successful. Maybe Atari would be battling Microsoft and Sony right now with their latest iterations of Adventure and Haunted House. If only more time was put into developing ET....

Although, to be honest, I enjoyed ET as a kid and still enjoy playing through it every now and then.

You can use original CD, Super CDs and Arcade CDs (maybe ACDs... I'm not sure, to be honest) on the X-Box or PC. The Wii does NOT have a CD player. It will only play DVDs. I prefer original hardware as well, but you DO have other options.

I'd actually like to see some enterprising established game company release a game for an older system like the NES or Genesis. Imagine owning an actual cartridge release of Mega Man 9.

I've always wished that for newer games they'd release special editions that had another game that was a prequel or spin-off that was only playable on an older console.

Like if Nintendo came up with a new franchise and released a game for Wii, but in the "Ultimate Collector's Edition" there was a prequel to said game on a fully functioning SNES cart.
