So while going "shopping" today, I noticed that my local Kmart still had some brand new HD DVD players for the Xbox 360 in stock. The price listed was at around $57.
Is this a decent price?
I don't know whether or not it comes with a movie, unfortunately.
I would love to get one, even if I don't have an Xbox 360 with me.

If I remember they all came with King Kong.
They aren't worth all that much though. As far as I know they aren't really sought after and they break down easily. I got mine from a friend, they just gave it to me. At my store we routinely get them in but we sell them for $15-20 and they still sit around for a long time.
I suppose if you're really into collecting for the 360 (or HD-DVD) or you think you will be then by all means, it might be worth while for you.

That's high. They go for between $20 and $40 new and if you have a Fry's locally, you can still find them on the shelf. You may want to have that drive scanned at Kmart though because I believe they had dropped to well below $20 at many locations and sometimes they don't update the shelf tag or price tag.

Aye, I will be doing that tomorrow, after my brother comes home from work.
I even read on a few internet sites that it went as low as $12...even $5!
If that's correct, I will get both. :)

If it is $20 or under, I would gladly pick one up off of you. I've been looking for one since they had originally dropped to $30 in most places and have not found one.

The last time I saw them at Kmart around here they were down to $25. But this was atleast 6 months ago. The one you found should be cheaper than that.

A number of months ago I bought the last one from the closest K-Mart to me. It rang up for $12.50. I have no idea why I bought it, so I sold it for $25.

I've been meaning to pick one up just for the hell of it. That and HD DVD is sort of like the new BetaMax or Laserdisc. In the future I think the drive will be worth something, maybe not crazy money, but worth something nonetheless. I don't want to spend more than $25 tops for one though.

Oh dear,
I went to Kmart yesterday, and the price scanned is STILL $56.99.
Damn it. I want one but not at that price.

That and HD DVD is sort of like the new BetaMax or Laserdisc. Not really, first you have to have thousands of titles and tons of content not available on any other format, but I get what you mean. HD Dvd doesn't really have anything exclusive going for it collector wise like what LD and Beta has, but it is a nice expansion if you want to get a HD dvd player for cheap and just stick to buying dvds and the occasional HD dvd now and then too until you jump into Bluray. These days you can score a good HD DvD player on ebay for the same price as a good DVD player about. Also, those 360 HD dvd drives can be used on PC too. The 360 HD player also does a good job of "upgrading" regular dvds. I wouldn't spend more than $30 on one, personally, and they're easy enough to find cheaper than $57, at the very least.

We got ours from FYE for $30. I wouldn't pay a cent above that if you find it as new old stock.

Did any games make use of the HD DVD attachment?

The player has no reliability anyways. I have one when I bought my 360 in Oct. 2008, and it stopped playing HD-DVDs, and only dvds about 6 months in. I bought another one, the very same thing happened. Does anyone know what the most reliable hd-dvd player is?

A year or so back, Best Buy had a promotion, buy a 360 get an HDDVD player for $10. I was like "can I just have the HDDVD player for $10?"

If you have a netbook, picking HD-DVD add on is not a bad choice. It reads on PC as well.
