Looks very Western to me.

Few details accompany the video, whose visuals and action-oriented gameplay are very Western-oriented, to say the least. The video's action sequences are broken up by concept art from GRIN that we've seen before. (http://kotaku.com/5358430/a-final-look-inside-grins-fortress/gallery/) The only detail recognizably familiar to me, and I'm no Final Fantasy expert, is the chocobo around 1:20.
The host of this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1U_0EoWkIE&feature=email) (whose YouTube profile, by the way, identifies him as "William Mark Felt" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Felt)), says the game is "set some time after the events of Final Fantasy XII (http://kotaku.com/tag/finalfantasyxii/): Revenant Wings," and is meant for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. "The project has not been officially announced yet, but its existence is known due to information leaked by former members of the development team and sources in the video game industry," the host said.
"The Fortress project is still supported by Square Enix (http://kotaku.com/tag/squareenix/) and in development at a currently undisclosed studio - possibly Eidos Montreal, Square Enix's main Western branch," he said. No sources for that information were cited, although earlier reports said the project was still in development. (http://kotaku.com/5364252/grins-ill+fated-fortress-still-under-development)
I have emailed a Square-Enix representative to ask if the company has any comment on this video. If any is offered it will be updated here.

Well, considering how poorly Final Fantasy XIII's reception in Japan was, maybe they're thinking of going in a different direction. The president of Squeenix outright said that the next installment of the game might possibly be done overseas. And considering how popular games like World of Warcraft are (all over the world except Japan), maybe they're trying to introduce WoW style MMORPGs into Japan through their country's most popular RPG. Just a thought.

Looks pretty good... I'm glad to hear this title might not be dead, as I assumed it was cancelled after GRIN went under.

That looks boring as hell. Waste of 2:30.

The very last part with the attacking looks sort of Demon's Souls-ish.

Weird. Looks pretty unappealing. As much as I don't care for whiny bishounen and ridiculous Nomura outfits consisting of nothing but belts and zippers, at least it's still SOME form of a style. This project looks like the most soulless game I've ever seen. This is why a Western game has to be something special to impress me. Far too many Western developers feel that realism is the only thing that matters.
