Hi all,

I got a copy of the SNES version of Chrono Trigger for reasonably cheap because it only has a few scraps of its original label still stuck to it. I'd like to get this junk off, relabel it and return it to its former glory. Does anyone know where I could download the label or does anyone happen to have it somewhere on their HD?

Thanks guys!

I have a few NES games I want to re-label. A hi-rez label archive would be a great thing to have wouldn't it? :P

The biggest worry with an archive is that resellers would buy games with bad labels, rip them off print off new ones and then claim that they have good labels. Or you could also have just plain assholes who take super mario world and slap on an earthbound label.

Agreed. That actually crossed my mind as I was writing the post. I mean, so long as the game worked well and the new label was a faithful replica of the original label, it make be a bit dishonest but I don't really see the buyer getting too screwed.

For me anyway, it'd be nice to have my collection in intact and... pretty. :)

@ Skaar - thank you so much! I'll go speak to some people over there.

Wouldn't it be a lot less work for a scammer just to recycle pictures?

An archive would help gamers with a legitimate need, while scammers will scam regardless of it's availability.

Agreed. If somebody is that hellbent on relabeling, resealing, etc. to such perfection that nobody can tell the difference then they're going to do it. But I figure that would happen so rarely that it's not worth worrying about when there's an opportunity to do something useful like archive label scans.

By the way...it looks like Etna...matured a bit recently. :yipes:

If piracy was a legitimate issue, we would have seen pirates of popular games long ago. Unless you are mass producing a pirate, it will almost never be cheaper to reproduce a SNES game than to buy the real thing. And if there was a group ready to pirate SNES games, it would be a trivial cost to scan the label themselves.

We are starting to see pirated SNES games in the past few years. Here are the one's to watch out for:

Final Fantasy III
Chrono Trigger
Earthbound

Right now you can tell that it is a bootleg due to the stickers and the weight of the game. Now if bootleggers can obtain access to high res scans of the sticker, print those and add more weight to the cart, it will be very hard to tell that it is a bootleg. The only way you can tell 100% is to open up the cart.

Again, what is stopping someone from buying the cart and making their own high resolution scan. Your paranoia about the availability of high resolution scans is moot.

And I have never seen any bootlegs of said games. If you do, send it my way, I want to see. If any shit like that was sold on ebay, there would be repercussions.

Evan you're just being silly. They don't have the technology in China to scan labels - only to print them and manufacture roms/pcbs with the game ON it. We have to keep the labels away from the bad people.

Besides it would probably be all in Chinese if they scanned it.

I have seen these knock offs in the following games:
Chrono Trigger
Earthbound
Final Fantasy III

The games do work but the batteries don't last as long as the original cart. The ones that I tested out had dead batteries and wouldn't hold the save. Luckily I got my money back.

Ah, I have actually seen that thread before.

My point still stands, though. If someone is going to pirate these games, they will find a way to get a scan, even if they have to do it themselves.
