I'm wondering if anyone here has seen places still selling flash carts for the original Gameboy. You'd think I'd have no trouble finding such a thing since I live in Hong Kong, but I'm looked high and low with absolutely no luck. GBA and NDS carts are in abundance, but I have no interest in those.

I gather you have tried the Golden Center in Sham Shui Po? It might be very expensive since you are looking for a Multi Game Doctor 2 8M Card

Sure have. I even went there during my lunch break today :)
One store got me excited, saying they had them. Then the guy came back with GBA flash carts. :frustrated:

I looked around for these online awhile back and had a similar experience. GBA carts are everywhere, but they don't do gameboy monochrome / color outside of emulation.

We used to sell the Smartboy last year, which was a GB/GBC flash cart. However, the company that made it claims they have stopped selling them and are currently working on a multi-cart version (the original wasn't multi-cart).
Although when I talked to them last they didn't seem very optimistic it would be out anytime soon, if ever.

As far as I can tell, the two at the top of this page are the only ones still available:

The biggest one is 64mbit, which is like 10 of the bigger games or 100 of the earlier games.
My dream product is a Game Boy/Game Boy Color flash cart that accepts MicroSD and is the size and shape of a GBA cart, so it can fit snugly in an SP.

The GBA Flash Advance linker will apparently work flawlessly on an original GB/GBC with an accessory known as the GB Bridge - but I expect that's not too easy to find either.

Didn't the bridge just activate a switch that told the system which cart mode it was in? Or am I totally wrong?

You may in fact be correct:

I haven't tried anything like that myself, though. I'd have thought it had something to do with the voltage across one of the pins.

Thanks for that. It might be my only option at this point. All I'm trying to do is limit the amount of carts I bring around with me, so the 64Mbit card should be enough. I just wish that price was in US$ and not pounds ;)
