Remember back in the day's of the VCS..you could only play game on TV using RF switch or a Box, Now it's HDMI or Component..

I remember playing my NES on my TV. On my Mom's TV witch was RF only, on Channel 3 in California, our local station was on Ch. 4

I know in the UK most systems like the SMS was on UHF Ch 34

How about in NZ or even Australia, I'm just a geek ...

Not sure about New Zealand or Australia but in Japan it was ch.1 & 2.

I was stuck using RF-only even to up the PlayStation and N64. I think at one point I had five cables daisy-chained.

I was RF only until 2006. Im glad to be off of RF now. The distortion was pretty bad on my former TV.

I was RF until 2005. :( Haven't upgraded to HDMI yet.

I was on RF on my tiny 13" TV until probably 2005.

I'm loving this "high-definition" thing for my newer stuff. It's just... so CLEAR :)

I think we used RF up until N64 at my house. I still use RF on my NES and Genesis systems, but anything else is RCA composite.

I just now got around to switching over to using composite cables for all my consoles. They always came with RF cables or I didn't have AV inputs on my TV at the time, and by the time I got a TV with AV, I already had all the RF cables and was too cheap to buy composite cables for all of the consoles. But I finally got around to it, and I am not regretting this decision in the least.

i think its funny that game systems used RF where the video and audio was in one cable, then over the years it spil into multiple cables, and now with HDMI we are back to one cable again.

Heh, I noticed that too. I bet it helps out on the wire hell though.

I was RF only until 1999. When I discovered I could plug in those weird cables to the back of the VCR. :)

I usually use whatever comes with the system, for systems that come with AV cables I hook them up through the VCR. Sometimes I'm lazy so I use AV cables instead of RF because I don't want to unhook stuff from the back of the TV, I just plug them into the front of the VCR. Or I just use a handheld system if I don't feel like digging out a system to hook up to the TV.

I play my Mega Drive (Megavision, actually) through its RF cable. Everything else is on AV cables, even the 2600/Dactar. Bad thing is that my tv has only one AV in, and I have no switchbox...

I feel like we were intended to play NES through RF. The fact that Virtual Console matches the darker color palette of NES RF tends to supplement my theory.

Technically though, HDMI has many different signal wires within 1 insulating sheath, whereas the old RF cables actually did have the audio and video combined on the same wire.

I pretty much started out with RCA composite, and I do S-Video if I'm lucky. No HDTVs in the house, since I put more money into computing. I've mentioned this in other threads, but most secondhand TVs I see are RF only, even newer models.

Up until 2 years ago for christmas I was playing everything on a 1983 RCA ColorTrak....

so I had:

NES
C64
SMS
Genesis/CD
TG16
Saturn
PS1
PS2
Dreamcast
SNES

all hooked up via RF. shit was insane.

The only thing I ended up hooking up with RCA was the TG-CD, and I had to use a modulator box for it, lol.

i could have swing the RF mess around as a weapon.
