View Full Version : Are there any expensive Original Xbox Games?

I usually pass these up whenever I see them for sale since they're usually FPS, racing, or sports titles.

Are there any xbox games that actually sell for a decent price? The only one I know of it steel battalion and I've never seen a copy for sale.

These sell for a decent price when sealed:

The Guy Game $30-70
Marvel Vs Capcom 2 $50-90
Star Wars: Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast $25-50
Steel Battalion(with controller) $80-130

They sell for considerably less when opened/used.

Never knew jedi knight two was worth anything.

I'm going to add aliens vs. predator to the list too, I remember selling that for $20.00 once.

Fatal Frame 1 and 2 go for a bit last time I saw. Baldur's Gate may as well, but that might only be the PS2 version.

Both baldur's gate seem to go for around $20.00, I shouldn't be passing up the silent hills either. Seems out they would release 2 & 4 but not 3 on xbox.

Conker's Live and Reloaded tends to be a bit of a rarity. Generally fairly sought after.

the guy game I see it locally at gamestops whenever they have an xbox section.

I think the operative term on all of these is sealed/mint. Other than maybe a complete Steel Battalion, I don't know of any complete boxed Xbox games that go for more than $20. Most go for far less.

These tend to go for between $15 and 25, so they're worth picking up if you're only paying a few dollars and are just looking for resale value.

Call of Cthuhlu
Sniper Elite
Futurama
Stubbs the Zombie
Land of the Dead
Silent Scope with gun

and a handful more that I can't think of at the moment.

Finally a benefit of buying more games than I can play! I picked this up years ago at one of those crazy Circuit City sales and got it for less than $10. Always meant to play it but never have and it sits here unopened to this day.

Any idea what a sealed Conker fetches these days?

whatever completed ebay listings say. I'd guess around $30-40.

I've been waiting for a copy to come my way for awhile now, not just for collecting purposes but to actually play. Everybody tells me how good it is. No luck thus far.

I'm glad this topic came up, because of something I've noticed. Steel Battalion and its sequel, by themselves without the controller, were something like $5 to $8 around my area, in every store that sold old Xbox games. I finally found a controller, and I can't for the life of me find the original game to play it with. Today I bought the sequel for $5, then I went to another store where they've knocked down their Xbox games pretty cheap, and yet again they didn't have the first game and they'd marked the second game $24.99. What's going on with the scarcity of the original game? Copies of the game were on dang near every store shelf up until I wanted a copy. What's the deal?

The star wars games were all going crazy around christmas on ebay, people were getting like $50 for used copies of battlefront 2. But both jedi knight games are worth a good amount, and if you can pick up a small lot of maybe 3-4 star wars games you would be able to get a good amount for them.

Star Wars Battlefront II

Got $41 out of a mint/complete and then $26 a few days ago. Surprisingly, I got $36 for Halo 1 & Halo 2 set.

I was selling Jurassic Park sealed on here for over a month about 2 years ago. Nobody even dropped an offer, which was a shame. I chucked it on ebay and sold it shortly thereafter. All the same, demand on XBOX games is pretty low, all things considered, at least compared to PS2 iterations of similar games anyway.

Just an FYI this title will also catch a pretty penny on the GameCube as well.

Actually, I have sealed copies of both, but I have seen many complete copies of both in the wild over the past year. Gamestop charges more for them, but most independent games shops and private sellers could care less.

I don't want to be a jerk about this, but you are selling a product which carries felony liability for both sale and possession. I don't know that law enforcement would do anything about it, but that doesn't change the fact that it is an illegal item you are selling.

Well you must be luckier than me. I've yet to see Marvel vs. Capcom in the wild other than Gamestop, in the 3 years I've been looking. I don't do a lot of Craigslist scouring, but I do go into many pawn shops and video stores. That and you see them all the time for $20? Wow.

Swap meets, local game shops and the occasional garage sale. I wouldn't say I see them all the time, but I would say I see cheap copies of both games every couple of months. The problem with trying to assign values to Xbox games is that it hasn't reached the point where Ebay prices are true market values (i.e. there are still lots of copies available outside of Ebay). For older consoles, stuff just really isn't readily available in the wild anymore, so Ebay does a pretty good job of defining market value.

I recently completed my sealed US Xbox collection and I can honestly say that the hardest sealed games to find were Teen Titans, Wallace and Grommet Project Zoo and Batman Vengeance. For non-sealed stuff, I don't think anything is particularly rare.

I have a Conker's, and I've passed on a few. I still would like reasonably a MvC2, and to a lesser extent Jurassic Park. I got a Sniper Elite and Jedi Knight 2, a while back for about $20. I'm not interested in anything sealed, just in reasonable condition. I'll keep looking, I guess.

...I don't believe it carries a felony liability for sale and possession, otherwise why would GameStop sell it? The publisher was given a cease-and-desist order because of the 17-year-old in it.

I've seen a few copies of The Guy Game still on sale at used game stores. I think they haven't been hunted down and destroyed because the game is so stupid nobody wants to play it. I've got a copy myself, never bothered trying it out. Pointless.

I don't often see the Playboy game anymore. I wouldn't mind getting it for my collection, but I'd be embarrassed to buy it. And it's another one that'll be crappy to play.

Honestly, the Playboy game makes the Guy Game look like a pretty good game! The Playboy "sims" style is so lame, so slow, and so mind-numbing that I'd rather play the "game-show" style of Guy Game anytime over it!

I think the Xbox games that are "rarer" will eventually become more valuable because they are just now becoming slightly harder to find since GameStop stopped carrying them. Already I'm seeing slight increases at some of the other stores that still have them like Movie Trading Company and Half Price Books. It may only be $1 or $2 increase, but it shows they recognize the local stock available to the "not on the internet, buy it in person" crowd has diminished greatly.

I'm still working on my collection of Xbox games with just over 400 and some of the titles that I have that I have only seen once or twice in the wild are:

MvC 2
Jurassic Park Operation Genesis
Conker
Sniper Elite
Steel Battalion with controller (of course)
Bible Game
Barbie Horse Adventures
Loons
Dai Senryaku
OutRun 2006: C2C

There are others like Futurama, Family Guy, Yourself Fitness, House of the Dead III that command "higher" prices than common games, but I see these at least a few times a year at different stores, and didn't have that much of a hard time finding them, just finding them at a cheaper price.

You are confusing two issues. The cease and desist was the result of a civil lawsuit by the 17-year old woman. That just required the publisher to stop shipping the game and issue a recall. The injunction then became permanent. Stores were free to respond to that in any way they decided.

The very fact that a 17-year old girl is topless in the game makes it subject to federal child pornography laws. Sale, distribution or possession of child pornography is a felony. I would agree with you that nobody is enforcing the law in this instance, but that doesn't change the law or the reality of what is contained in the game.

I also think that everyone's area will be different, based not only on local Gamestops and Game Crazy's, but also from flea markets and thrift stores. Although your entire list would give people in various areas atleast alittle difficulty in acquiring, the only game on that list I have never seen in the wild is Barbie's Horse Adventures. Not in one single game store, thrift store, flea market, craigs list ad or Goodwill. And whats even more amazing is that I started looking for it when it was selling for $40-60 used on ebay. It's now nearly two years later and I still haven't found it.

Simply being topless and underage doesn't make it child pornography. Granted this game falls into a somewhat grey area, but I highly doubt anyone out there is prosecuting people for selling or owning this game on those grounds. I've yet to hear anything like that. And with good reason, imo. The girl in question was weeks away from being 18 and there was no sex involved, only nudity, and not even full nudity. You can purchase a film with Brooke Shields as a 13 year old (playing a prostitute) that shows her naked. The simple act of nudity is not enough.

Correct, except for the fact that the court in the civil case already found there was no legal consent and that the video was of a prurient nature. Also, it doesn't matter if she was 24 hours away from being 18, she was underage and this would fall under Federal child pornography statues. I would agree with you that nobody is prosecuting right now, but that doesn't change the facts of the situation.

So any pictures/movie clips that show some skin of an underaged girl are automatically child pornography?

Since I follow the "Finds" threads on DP I definitely see that people in some areas find stuff that I can't find at all. So many games that others consider common that I just can't find, so it's a regional thing for sure.

I really think that we'll eventually see an increase in price in games that are NOT Madden, Need for Speed, or Crimson Skies, which are the most prevalent Xbox games that I come across in the wild. I also see the kids game genre being one of the groups that will dry up in the hands of collectors since I don't think they were produced as much. Barbie, SeaWorld Shamu, Disney Skate Adventure, and games like that don't command much money but are pretty scarce around here. Lastly, late-run kid movie games still bring a higher price and are hard to find. Games like Madagascar, Robots, Chicken Little, Ratatouille are overlooked by many collectors and could come back to haunt you trying to find one later.

I agree with Ratatouille. It was a Gamestop exclusive and didn't even end up at many of their stores. Shamu, Madagascar, Chicken Little and Robots got a second run as front lane games at Best Buy and various liquidators, so I doubt those will be too rare.

A couple of others that still seem to demand high-ish prices around here are:

Dungeons and Dragons: Heroes
Scarface
Playboy: The Game
Gauntlet - there are two, and both are still fairly high priced whenever I see them.

And any exclusives like:
Outlaw Golf Holiday Golf

I can say with certainty that Sneakers isn't high-priced. I bought one for $10 brand new sealed with the intent of selling on Amazon since they didn't have any listed at the time. A few weeks after I listed mine, some popped up on there for $10. XD

Have you checked out your local Entertainmart? The one on 75, north of Parker Road? That location looks to have the most Xbox titles of the three locations I've been to. The Valley View Mall one and the Arlington store probably only have half the amount of stock.

And you're right, I tend to ignore the 'kiddie' games. Ratatouille was one of the last releases for the system, and I've always meant to pick one up, but I never pull the trigger. And I haven't seen much of SeaWorld and Disney Skate Adventures around here. I tend to go to Entertainmart looking for games that I'd like to play, not from a future collection standpoint. Maybe I need to grab these while I can, and while they're cheap.

Yep, I have to stay away from that Entertainmart for that exact reason! They actually have a nice stock of stuff that I need and the prices aren't too bad. I'm still hanging on to the 50% off at GameStop deal, though, so I'm hitting GS's in search of Xbox games. Yesterday I hit the Collin Creek Mall location and scored 4 complete games that I needed for the collection and left a couple behind, including Chicken Little. I may end up going back for that one later.

The Movie Trading Company store at Collin Creek Mall is one of the most boring locations they have, apart from the Garland store. At least from my standpoint, as a pre-NES collector. They've got a good selection of Xbox games, but can't they have more than eight Atari games? And heaven forbid they get some Colecovision games. The Parks Mall location has a bunch (overpriced, sadly).

Yep, I hate that location too. Never have found anything there. Ever.

Getting back on the point of this thread, though, I'm not sure what will ever be "expensive" from the Xbox line aside from the two obvious ones - Steel Battalion w/ controller, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Beyond these two, it will be interesting to see which games can meet the trifecta of expensiveness in the future:

1. High-quality of game (graphics, character creation, or innovation)
2. Low availability (due to low production or just lack of product on ebay)
3. Big fan-base (either of company, character, or series)

Of course, you don't have to hit all 3 of these, just look at the Mario games from the N64, SNES, or Gameboy. They were all produced out the yin-yang, but they do meet the other two criteria of being high quality games with a large fan base. The Xbox's best signature game, Halo, is one of its cheapest due to the high production numbers.

I think when it all comes down to it, not really any of the games from this last generation will be all that expensive due to production numbers, and if they do become more expensive, it will be many, many, many years down the road.

Only the regular Xbox version was Gamestop exclusive and as far as I know, it was never sold elsewhere. Notably, there was also a 360 version released at the same time. Not sure what the differences in versions are.
