So, who's getting the game when it's coming out next week?

I'll wait for a bit myself because I'm not done yet playing Mass Effect, Dragon Age: Origins, and Oblivion (at this rate, won't get it for a whole year...), but I will rent it next week if I can, so I can do a review of it.

Only thing that annoys me in all the trailers, screenshots, etc. that Bioware released: they all show the standard male Shepard. No standard female Shepard anywhere. :(

Oh man I am so pumped for this game. I'm having it delivered to me, because I'm away next week, but I really can't wait. I think that the first Mass Effect is probably my favorite game of this generation, and it set a new gold standard for RPG's. (Note: I'm only talking about the main quest; the shitty sidequests are something else entirely) I'm in the same boat as you, though, because I'm still in the middle of Dragon Age. Also, you might want to finish the first Mass Effect, just so you don't get the plot spoiled.

my local gamestop's having a midnight launch, so i'll be there. my collector's edition awaits. my only regret is that i didn't push my shepherd to lvl 60 in the original (i think he's at lvl58), even though it would have taken another complete playthrough to get that much xp.

I'm getting it today....but I'm afraid to play it after the way MS banned everyone willy-nilly on COD MW2 :( *sigh* Mass Effect is easily my favorite modern RPG, and one of my top 10 games of all time.

maxlords,
Play it with ethernet disconnected. How are they going to know when there are no timestamps?

They were banning people playing pirated copies of MW2. Not people with legit copies. Play away. They won't ban you, even plugged into live.

I preordered it on Steam, cant wait.

I just finished Dragon Age as well, was trying to finish it before ME2 came out.

I've owned the original for quite a while and liked what I saw (I'm just a handful of hours into it), so I'll be picking this one up once I finish.

It will probably be the first multiplatform release that I purchase for the PS3 rather than the 360, I really don't want to have to swap disc everytime I play once I get to the halfway point of the game.

I didn't realize that. Well that sucks, I'd rather not have to swap disc.

I did have it preorder. Hope EA keeping their word about buying ME2 new and they will give us free DLC.

Yep. Really looking forward to it. It'll be weird to jump right into it so soon after finishing Dragon Age, but that's probably what I'm going to do. I thought about trying to do another Dragon Age playthrough before it's released but I won't have enough time, so I'm just putting some more time into trying to finally finish Oblivion.

So, who's getting the game when it's coming out next week?

I have it coming from Amazon on Tuesday. Loved the first game. The Mass Effect universe and mythology fascinated me throughout. Probably the best story of any game I've played. The promised gameplay improvements have me very excited about this one.

I'll be picking it up on tuesday at Game Stop. Most anticipated game of the year and in a long time. I feel like a kid again eagerly awaiting the new Sonic The Hedgehog game (on Genesis... the only Sonic games that count.) :-)

Not anymore http://ps3.ign.com/articles/111/1113393p1.html

it's strange that Bioware is porting Mass Effect 2 to the ps3 but not the original Mass Effect considering Mass Effect 2 is a direct continuation of the original games story.

Oh well, I think i'll be picking up the ps3 version when it comes out so i can play it with the dualshock controller. I never have liked the xbox controllers original or 360. I seem to be in a small minority tho. LOL

Still not interested.

According to Bioware the PS3 version has hours of extra content. I have no idea how long the first game is so they might include the first game with the Mass Effect 2 gameplay or maybe they'll include a bunch of storyline cutscenes of the first game leading into the second.

A friend gave me his copy. I was very skeptical at first because I felt that ME1 had a lot of problems, and I really didn't find it that interesting. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the sequel is better than the original in every possible way. They fixed literally every problem I had with the original. They cut out a lot of the bullshit without detracting from the depth. This is tied with Bioshock as my favorite game of this console generation. Anybody who liked Statflight or Star Control should definitely try me2 because the influence is definitely noticeable.

I was kind of like you with this game: I didn't dislike the first one, but it had its fair share of quirks and just general "annoyances" that made the game less fun. ME2 really is better in every way and ranks up there as one of the best rpgs I've played and is certainly one of the best console rpg of this generation (mileage may vary if you consider this game more of a shooter, which is acceptable).

I was not aware of the PS3 port of the game till just now.

Damn, 360 really has no exclusives aside from Halo...

I couldn't get in to the first one at all. Maybe I was spoiled because I had just finished Bioshock which I thought was an excellent experience. ME pissed me off in a few different ways, the shooting always seemed a bit off including the collision detection. Plus my team had an affinity for not doing what I told them to and dying quickly. I tried to play it like Dragon Age which I thought it was designed for but I could have been screwing up. I got to the point where you save that doctor and the mine is caving in but couldn't beat the final battle of that scene, even on easy. The grain on the graphics was cool though and I did make myself a damn sexy Shepard. If the sequel is that much better than the original I will have to pick it up when it gets cheap. Really excited about Dragon Age 2 though.

Wait if you must, but do try ME2. I'm really shocked at how good it is, especially if you dug Bioshock.

The first Mass Effect was a shady, broken piece of crap. The sequel is one of my favorite games of the last ten years. I enjoyed Dragon Age, but Mass Effect 2 is a far better game in my opinion. The last hour or so is the single best end run in a game ever. Epic stuff.

ME2 coming to PS3 is great of course, but not being able to import your ME1 save (due to there being no ME1 on PS3) is a bummer. Of course, I ended up stuck at some middle point in ME1 with my closest save five hours back, so I didn't import either. I guess it's a wash.

Mass Effect 1 was a good game; cool story, awesome universe. There were a few things in it that I didn't really enjoy that much - inventory management and trying to drive the Mako over mountainous terrain, most notably - but overall it was a really enjoyable experience.

Mass Effect 2 just happens to be a hell of a lot more fun in practically every way. There were some genuine moments of unease while playing through that game, particularly in that last hour. While good more people can play it, you really have to go through ME1 first to get the full experience, the full value of continuing in this world with a character you already had for some 30 hours.

I enjoyed the hell out of the first Mass Effect and had a great time playing it, but it took me a few hours to get into ME2's combat system since it was almost like an entirely new game, which was probably because I played ME2 right after I beat ME. I'm happy to see that ME2 is finally hitting the PS3, but unless they add a mini-campaign as a quick run through of the first game, some of the games feel may be lost since some heavy decisions carry from the character import.

This.

Mass Effect 2 is shockingly good. I (like it seems a lot of people) was not overly impressed with ME1, especially the combat. ME2 really is an entirely different game from the ground up, and it caught me completely by surprise: I only bought the game on a lark, not having read any of the critical reaction.

But aside from dialog trees the actual "RPG" element of the game is fairly light... which is a minor complaint. If anything we should encourage designers to try and blend genres to try and create something original.

The differences between Mass Effect 1 to Mass Effect 2 are incredible. It's a lot like comparing Super Mario Bros. 1 to Super Mario Bros. 3. Every aspect of the game was improved, way longer, more detailed, varied, fun to play.

I'm not saying not having ME1 on the PS3 is going to ruin how you enjoy ME2. The legitimate plot points (that dont change depending how you played the game) can all be covered with a quick 5-minute recap movie. There's something that happens to Shepard at the beginning of the game which SHOCKED me that will probably be only shocking to someone that didn't play through the first game.

As I did! Several times though. The last few runs were just to see what all the choices/classes do, and I was clocking in at 6-8 hours per playthrough. In comparison, I played through ME2 once and have not touched it since. Not that it's a bad game, but I want to slowly play though all the paths, rationing it until ME3 comes out.

I don't understand people knocking this as the 360 losing an exclusive. The game was never one to begin with, as it shipped on the PC at the same time. I don't understand Sony fanboys I've seen jumping up and down at getting the middle chapter of a trilogy a year after everyone else.

Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, and Gears of War are also on PC. Dead Rising is on the Wii though I've heard it sucks compared to the 360 version.

Just ignore the sadly confused platform whores: attempts at reasoning with them brings nothing but sadness. Both systems have rad exclusives, and both systems are totally worth owning. End of story.

I don't look at it as "getting the middle chapter of a trilogy a year after everyone else", I look at it as a new group of people finally getting to experience one of the absolute best games of this generation. That's a win from any perspective.

Guess I'm in the minority here....I absolutely DESPISED Mass Effect 2...thought the story was complete crap, the gameplay options were downgraded, and the whole thing felt forced. I could go on about the issues in ME2 for probably an hour...and that's compared with the first one.

What's the fun in that? I'd say PS3 (only) owners are getting the severe short end of the stick. ME2 without ME1? Pointless.

Yeah more and more the Pc has been getting console titles. I was really surprised that Alan Wake ended up being a 360 exclusive. Remedy built its fan base with their pc work, Max Payne 1 and 2, 3DMark test, ect, and most of the time when they would demo the game running it was on a multi core Pc, not the 360.

I'm with you on this one, Mass Effect 1 was my favorite 360 RPG before Fallout came out but ME2 was terrible. The changed everything I loved about the first one and took a lazy cope out approach to "continuing" where the first game left off. Seriously, if I make a choice for a character to survive from one game to the next I want to see him have an active story role in my party not making a guest appearance as a damn cameo. Or in Alenko's case a god damn photograph on my desk.

I picked up Mass Effect 2 on the weekend as I saw it had dropped from it's 'new game' price. I'm going to start tonight hopefully!

I loved the first Mass Effect when it came out, but I'm curious as to what I eventually think about Mass Effect 2 now that I've played Fallout 3 and Fable II to death.

For the latter two games, I kept playing after the credits had rolled because I enjoyed their universes so much and because there were Achievements I had left on the table.

For Mass Effect I just put the controller down and started playing GTA IV, despite the achievements on the table.

Only time will tell.
