Sega Challenge/Team Sega (http://www.zaponline.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=1083) was an amazing (and very rare) newsletter in the late 80's. I am the original owner of all seven issues, and am in the process of scanning all of the issues to .pdf. So far I have done issue #4, and will post the rest shortly. Enjoy!

I wonder if those mailbag letters are real, they all read like thinly guised advertisements.

Awesome!!! This is great news, I've had zero luck trying to track any of these down myself. I'm so glad someone is scanning them, thanks a lot.

An excellent read! Thanks for all the hard work and good luck repairing the first few issues. I had no idea these existed. I just assumed that Sega Visions was the first Sega Mag.

I have three of these. They're okay. Very light reading.

Sega Visions was awesome because they had comics of that dude in sunglasses who devoted every waking hour to pizza and Game Gear. He eschewed all other responsibilities and really inspired me to not live my life.

Weren't those written by Bill Kunkel?

Written by Bill Kunkel (http://www.sega-16.com/feature_page.php?id=208&title=Interview:%20Bill%20Kunkel) and drawn by Dave Sullivan (http://www.sega-16.com/feature_page.php?id=13&title=Interview:%20David%20Sullivan).

I have all of these and have been meaning to scan them.

I have been a Sega fan for a long
time, and I still think it is the best.
I have 11 cartridges, and can't
wait to get more. I also can't wait
to get the hot game SHINOBI.™
It is the best game ever. Overall,
I think Sega is the greatest, and
it will remain the greatest for a
long time.

Yeah... those letters are fake.

Issue # 5 is scanned and now up. Here (http://www.zaponline.org/seganewsletter.html) it is, where all the scans will now be neatly placed in a simple html I just wrote up.

Wow, actual coverage on Lord Of The Sword. It's like stepping into an alternate reality.

Who wants an Out Run shirt from the back of the issue's order form? I know I do.

These newsletters are so painfully 80s. I love them.

Being a sucker for old magazines I really appreciate your effort on scanning and putting these up. Thanks!

It is proving very difficult to scan the rest. Issues # 1-3 are in the process of being freeze dried, and this could take months with no guarantees. Issue #7's cover has just been scanned, but do to water damage each page is still partially stuck at the bottom. I'll see what I can do with this, it's not too bad.

If I may ask, (or beg if need be)
I have 6 of the 7 issues (issues 2 through 7), all of them pretty much in perfect condition and I would be more then willing to scan them for everyone else. But what I REALLY REALLY would like is for you to take a picture (best quality possible at your end is fine) of the cover of issue 1. I have always wanted to get that first issue to complete my collection, and eventually I will, but for now, I don't even know what the heck it looks like! I have never seen it and would love to see what is on the cover. (my best theories have always been that Out Run made the cover).

Anyhow, it's to you.
Thanks!

Out Run did make the cover, how did you know? Right now it is in my freezer, stuck to issue # 2. :( No need to scan issue #2, as someone sent it to me and I'll put it up tonight or tomorrow. However, I would love if you can scan issue #3 and 7, as they may be beyond repair. I will put them online and give you full credit for the scan.

Oh yeah, here is what Sega Challenge Issue #1 looked like. It's a small glimpse, but it's a start:

You got your credit wrong. You're attributing the scan of #2 to Sega Fans, when all they're doing is hosting the file. If I'm remembering correctly it was scanned by Matt at VideoGameObsession.com.

Not that anyone REALLY cares, but Matt is such a great guy that I want him to get whatever credit is coming to him!

The high quality, excellent conditioned issues of numbers 2 and 3 that I just bought arrived in the mail today. I scanned issue #2 (replacing the issue that I found on Sega Fans) and issue #3. Now, all that's left is issue #1 and #7. Covers of every issue are on the page for easy access. Enjoy!

eBay. Issue #2 cost me $148.27, while issue #3 went for $146.50. I narrowly lost the bid for issue #1. I bid $300, and it sold for $305. I was furious, as I thought $300 would be enough.

Just scanned and uploaded #1 and created a new section for these:

I think your link is off. When clicking Sega Challenge #1, it goes to "Leisure Time Electronics."

Kudos to you and thanks for preserving something these newsletters, I'm sure half the folks that were interviewed for them probably don't even remember. :D

Man, thanks for scanning these things. I've coveted these mags since they were released but I could never get my hands on them, and I always wondered what the content was. When I hit the lottery a complete set will be one of my first big purchases.

It took me nearly 5 years to find issue number 1 again, but I finally did (with patch and all!) for a decent price. So now all seven issues have been scanned. Enjoy!
