So i'm on videogamepricecharts.com for the first time ever and decided to price compare since i'm in the mood to buy little king's story on wii. Then i click the ebay tab for kicks and for some reason it shows a ton of buy it now search results much cheaper than what normally show up in my ebay searches.

So I found this odd and what seems to happen is they search by UPC code, meaning, since i NEVER tag my game listings with UPC codes that i've probably been missing out a a HUGE ton of traffic from any and all sites that do searches like this.

EXAMPLE

How I normally see results

http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?LH_BIN=1&LH_IncludeSIF=1&_nkw=little%20king%27s%20story&LH_SiteWideCondition=New13180&_fln=1&_ssov=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m282

How I see everyone else must be seeing results

http://catalog.ebay.com/Little-Kings-Story-Wii-2009-/58809717?LH_BIN=1&LH_IncludeSIF=1&Condition=Brand%2520New&_dmpt=Video_Games_Games&_fln=1&_htch=1&_pcategid=139973&_pcatid=2&_ssov=1&_tab=2&_trksid=p4295.c0.m282

In this and many instances the search results vary incredibly. Anyone happen to know what the whole deal is with this? Again, i'm thinking it all has to do with the UPC codes and how certain sites filter them.

You don't necessarily HAVE to enter the UPC to be listed on the second link you posted. You do have to enter in the game in the Product Details section, though, and one way of doing that is the UPC. You can also just type in the name of the game and find it that way.

I've never not done this, so I can't say for sure how it effects sales, but it certainly can't hurt, especially for something that takes 10 seconds.

I don't use the catalog because you can't browse completed listings through it. It's stupid.

If I'm searching for anything new (like DVD/Blu-ray/Games), I always find out the UPC and just search for that. They way, I know (for the most part) that I find exactly the auctions I want and don't have to worry about if it's a foreign release (or, in the case of DVDs, a 'Chinese' release... i.e., bootleg). Sure, there's still a few that will put the wrong UPC in there, but it weeds out about 99% of the listings I don't want to see... It's probably excluding a certain percentage too, but if it's not rare, that doesn't really matter to me.

If you have the item in your hand when listing it, typing in the UPC is the fastest way to get cover art, title and description pre-filled out for you. (But still add your own description and photo. Another thing I avoid is people that don't post an actual photo of the item being sold, and don't add anything to the description. It just makes it look like you don't really have it...)
