Got my beta kit today. Wish I had a digital camera so I could take some pics. Maybe I'll hook up my webcam and get a few pics later. It came sealed with a thick instruction booklet and the case is just like a retail case with the seal on it and such. Also comes with a 40 gig hard drive, which has to be returned when the beta is over, but they give you a free retail drive for testing. Damn, I almost don't want to open it. I wonder what a sealed copy of this will go for in 10 years. Oh well, I know I can't help myself. Too late to get into it tongiht, but I will check it out tomorrow and report back.

Think of what some avid final fantasy gamer will pay for it now?! O_O

You got into the beta? Lucky dog. :o

I applied for the PC version (don't need a PS2 HD, thank ya very much.....) but never heard back from them so I guess I did'nt make it.

Oh well, I never get accepted into any closed betas. Or win anything, for that matter.

I think the PC beta had a load more applications, seems like a lot of people here got into the PS2 beta and so far, one into the PC beta. I know I applied for the PC beta, I didn't want to go out and buy a PS2 network adapter, reroute my cable modem through my house and type with a controller.

Well, it's worth it for the free hard drive alone. I already had a network adapter cause I got it to play socom online. Also, any USB keyboard will work with the ps2, so no problems there either.

I finally got around to playing FF XI last night (even though I got the kit Tuesday), and it's not bad. I find the controls a bit confusing, but I suppose that will change over time. Right now I have a level 3 Red Mage named tivadar.

how far can go when asking questions of you guys? don't want to ask you anything that would break any NDAs y'all signed but I'm extremely curious.

I fully intend to get FF11 when it hits retail shelves. I go to www.shadow-dragons.com for all my Final Fantasy 11 information, you should too, it has alot of useful information about the game and mechanics, pics, videos, class and race information, at the moment, when I get the retail version I am going to become a Taru-Taru monk, in everquest monks= massive damage, I figure its the same way with FF11, so why not be short, cute, and kick somethings ass? :D

Well, since I'm such a huge FF nut, I try very hard NOT to know anything about a new game until I get my hands on it. :D That's the only way I can surive the wait! LOL

But I will be getting the PC version. I don't need the extra PS2 stuff and I have a brand new high end system prepared to kick FF11's but. :)

Honestly I don't know, I really didn't read it. But since FF XI has been in Japan for over a year now I can't see the harm in answering questions. Not like there's anything new and secret in the US version (AFAIK), it's just translated.

I didnt the link to imply spoilers, hell its a MMORPG, there isnt anything to SPOIL about it, I meant by the link that you can get information about the different classes ect. By the way, tempest, it is my understanding that the beta testers get a free Harddrive for beta testing after they send the one they sent you back, if you arent planning on getting the retail version, can i buy your harddrive off of you when they send it to you? :)

I'm in the PC beta. The reason I applied for it though is because I figured there'd be way more PS2 applications, thus making the PC beta easier to get into. My new PC doesn't hurt either. :)

@ Tritoch, what is your class/race?

None yet. PC beta testers don't get their kits until early July.

I'm about to go to bed, but I took the time to install and setup everything and play it some and I'll say one thing, the fighting system sucks ass. I hate it. Why the hell to they make you click on shit and choose attack and let you sit there and not control the attacking, your guy just swings and regular intervals. If they made all the fighting and magic manually done this game would be awesome. I just wish I could contrl the action like Secret of Mana, Zelda, Dark Cloud, etc.. Like it is I won't be paying for it at all.

Well, I've given the game a little more time, actually stayed up till 4am playing it last night. I still have to say I don't care for the fighting system overall but I have grown to deal with it. There is a lot to this game. I don't like the way they pace it, but that is to be expected since the want to milk it. I hate Everquest, Starwars Galaxies(beta tested it too), etc... but this game I kinda like. I still don't know if it's worth a monthly fee or not. I'll wait till I play it a bit more to decide that.
