Hi all,

I'm in the market for an SNES and on ebay the official mini SNES and the original model (w/ their boxes) cost about the same. Are there advantages or disadvantages between the two as there apparently are between the mini NES and original NES? Is one more rare than another?

Thanks guys.

I would assume the model 2 is rarer, but the only advantage to it is that it's smaller. It doesn't have the s-video support that the original has, and it doesn't have a power light to let you know that it's on.

Original has s-video output, but the Jr. has better AV out.

Also, the revision doesn't have the eject button. I always liked that feature.

The Mini doesn't have the yellowing problem of the original.

I have both, but mostly use the Mini because of it's small size.

The model 2 does not have s-video but if you need it there's people out there that can mod it to display in s-video.

The main thing that's better ( ive heard ) is that it doesn't have the green bar down the middle when displaying games like the original model has.

i would say the original. I have had mine since day one it came out, and never have had a problem with it.

I have the mini-SNES and love it. Looks great on my TV, and it takes up way less space.

I also have a mini-SNES and I love it ! I modified it to play Japanese games and it works great ! My only problem with it is that some devices don't work with it. For instance I recently bought a set of japanese wireless Acclaim controllers but the receiver doesn't fit...

I have both, and unless you really want S-Video, it all comes down to price, availability, and personal preference. The model 2 is less common than the original, though I don't think that it could be called "rare" by any means. I think the model 2 also tends to command a slightly higher price, plus you might have to go to eBay to find one. Realistically I don't think that the space saved by the model 2 is that big of a selling point, but I do like its design more.

Personally, I love my mini-SNES, but I just happened to find one in a thrift store. I wouldn't spend much effort looking for one if you already know where you can get an original SNES.

I'd recommend just getting an original that isn't yellowed. It's a little bit cheaper and it has S-video. The eject button is also a pretty amazing feature.
