View Full Version : To Admins --> Split Forum? (FS\FT and WTB\WTTF)

Hello Admins.
I searched a bit but I wasn't able to find a response to this query. Any chance of splitting this forum into separate "Buying" and "Selling" forums to ease in searching through the various posts? I know this would take some work (especially moving the various threads in your DB) but I think this change would be welcomed by the DP community.
Thanks in advance for your consideration.
Terry

Any changes to the forum software would likely cause the C64 that DP is hosted on to spontaneously combust.

They did this at Atari Age and I didn't notice the wanted forum for 3 years.

Well, at Atari Age they have the WTB forum as a sub-forum of the Selling forum, rather than a whole new forum.

I vote against it. Change is bad.

I will propose this at the next Admin/Moderation summit in 2024. Until then, I wouldn't expect it to change.

LOL Quote of the week.
But still, even on fire that C64's going to be working and pumping out some kick ass tunes.
This forum works well the way it is.

Personally, I like the idea. It seems like it would make it easier to find what you're looking for.

I would be for that! Along with RSS feeds and thats a winning combination.
Not holding mybreath though.:yipes:

FWIW, it's being kicked around behind closed doors -- although, like pretty much every proposed change around here, it's pretty much a 50/50 split, just like the responses in this thread.

If I'm not mistaken, we already have RSS feeds in place for most of the subforums, don't we? I'm not big on the whole RSS thing, but maybe someone who actively uses it can chime in.

Which is most likely the way it would be done here.

Really? I can't seem to find it. I know the toolbar has feeds but i thought that only supported the blogs and ALL forums and not individual forums.
Can anyone confirm that we can do custom feeds for individual forums with our own reader? This would make my day!

I get an icon on my browser's address bar, and this is what it links to:

I prefer they all be in the same subforum, but if for some reason you were to consider it anyways, there simply aren't enough threads to warrant it. Somewhere like CAG, where threads disappear off the first page after 30 minutes, it could work, but not here.

This only feeds the the forum as a whole and lumps everything together. It doesn't break it down by subforum like just the Marketplace or just Classic Gaming.

I think a separate forum / sub-forum for WTB would be a good idea. At the moment, you can't even search for "WTB" because of the search string limitation.

I like the idea.
Sometimes, though rare, I want to search for something to buy and when I think I found it, it ends up that someone wants to buy it, since I did not look at the WB or WTB letters.
Seperating each would be more organized, and I can easly click on the corresponding sub-board to buy something.
