I have never been able to find one around me, as I've looked into modding my own system my import pile seems to get higher and higher.

I would prefer a FAT style that is modded but would be interested in either. If you're looking for one to sell send me a PM with a price.

Have you looked into the Free McBoot mod? It's almost as good as a chipped system and pretty easy to do yourself.

Except for the whole having to burn hacked copies of the game, not to mention, you can't play CD-based games without converting them to DVD.

And you can't play PS1 games either.

If he wants to run original games, a modchip is the best choice.

I don't use FreeMcB (got a chipped slim) but I thought I remember seeing a .elf that let you play PS1 games burnt to dvd's.

But yeah, modchips are the way to go but I know a lot of people are happy with using Free McBoot as a cheap & easy alternative.

I've looked into my options and decided that the best option for me would be to get a chip modded PS2. I have the HDLoader to preserve my discs as they are and have considered trying that soft mod route but I really just want to use the discs that I have.

I also considered getting a Japanese console but considering I already have the PS3 and my current PS2 I'd like to minimize what I have.

I realize asking here is a long shot though.

A mod chip will make things infinitely easier for just simply wanting to stick in any disc and having it take without issue.

Conversion to DVD and applying the patch to boot games directly with Free McBoot isn't that hard and if you don't want to bother with that, an age old .elf that's been around since the beginning of the independence exploit boots any backup provided you have a means of swapping (knife trick, slide card, flip-top).

Any system Version 9 and higher (slims included) can boot PS1 backups and imports with a simple swap and an .elf file. No need to convert PSX games to DVDs. The only problem with this method lies in multiple CD games when you need to change discs.

I swear by my flip-top V9 combo with the network adapter and HDLoader. Not only is it nice to bypass the Sony boot logo, its nice to have all of my homebrew and programs accessible from a Sony BIOS, all of it just by sticking in my memory card. I feel that it's just as good as a mod chip sans multiple CD PSX games. Mod chips are still surprisingly expensive so I'll take my one small sacrifice in favor of everything I'm able to do already.
