Hi guys. I know this game has been out for a few years but i just got my wii and it's new to me.

I thought i would mention that the clerk lady at gamestop told me it had been discontinued by nintendo when i went to get it. I ended up finding one at walmart though.

She said there a pretty good list of games being discontinued most likely to make room for new stuff. I wasn't sure about this game but i gave it a shot and I'm glad i did. It's fun as hell.

I would recommend it to anyone who likes mario or platformers.

I bet that it's delisted, no longer carried by GameStop's distribution center. From what I've seen it's still a consistent seller, so I don't see Nintendo dropping one of their top tier titles.

Yeah, I beleive the one of the only first party games that have actually been discontinued on the Wii was Metroid Prime Trilogy. I recall with the GameCube you could still find Double Dash and Mario Sunshine for a while even after the console was discontinued, and I've still noticed that Galaxy is readily available at other retailers like Target and Best Buy.

It will surely be re-released on a "Player's Choice" label or whatever sooner or later, no?

I'd certainly like to give it a proper play-through some day, but I have no intention of buying a Wii at the moment.

Discontinued? It doesn't affect us that much. Never going to become a rare game either way. A player's choice release would be nice, or maybe some kind of "Super Mario Galaxy Trilogy" on Nintendo's next system.

Maybe there's a new Wii bundle coming out. Buy a system and get Super Mario Galaxy for free. Like the NES with Mario/Duck Hunt so many years ago. Wii and a Mario game for $200 is possible, right? Or Wii, Mario and Metroid for $250?

Or! Super Mario Galaxy 2 is supposed to come out this summer or fall. so a Player's Choice re-release would also be a good bet. SMG1, Metroid Trilogy, WiiSports, the better Sonic game, and a few from EA and Ubisoft... BAM! You got a line-up, just in time for E3 (when I would expect an announcement).

Maybe! Instead of a Player's Choice version, there's a "Game of the Year" edition in the works. Slap on a few extra levels or videos or planets or whatever. Slash the price down to $40 to make it seem like a great deal and throw it out the door. If not extra content, bundled on the disc is Super Mario Sunshine?

...

Then again, the answer may be as simple as "keep only one Wii Mario game on store shelves at a time"?

There are still plenty at Best Buy and other stores, even if that becomes the case, like some users above have said, it would be bundled or players choiced. I'd like to see a price drop, but a bundle with the wii will have me sold.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii should be the pack-in game with newer wii's. IMO.

That would be great, but it wouldn't make sense for Nintendo to do that.

Let's include our Best Selling game for free. YAY!!!

Maybe! The lady at Gamestop had no idea what she was talking about, and Nintendo will continue to sell many, many more copies of Super Mario Galaxy in the future.

If anything, I think they'll bundle Wii Sports Resort as a pack-in. It'll help get Motion plus into more homes as well.

And there it is, a nice little kernal of truth.

Nintendo does this kind of stuff all the time. There will be another print run eventually, once store stock has dried up and demand comes back (perhaps around the time the sequel comes out).

Nintendo has released their list of "discontinued" titles, and Super Mario Galaxy is nowhere on that list. Your Gamestop friend was mistaken. Galaxy will continue to be sold for the foreseeable future.

Hmm, maybe she meant that it wont be sold at there store anymore or it was an error in her computer or something. I still glad i bought it though. It's a great game even though it gets to be a little to challenging at times.

Or maybe she was blowing smoke so you would buy it. I worked at a gamestop a few years ago, trust me, their system doesn't tell them that kind of information.

Actually I worked there as well and it does tell you if a game has been discontinued. They have either an A (active) or a (D) discontinued next to the title. The thing is a title like Mario Galaxy I'm sure a lot of copies made and they are sitting in a warehouse waiting to be distributed. Saying that a game is discontinued does not mean however that it can't be found new somewhere.

Nintendo has released their list of "discontinued" titles
Is there a source for this list somewhere? I'd be curious to see what is on it.

Discontinued at Gamestop doesn't necessarily mean that it's discontinued by the manufacturer, it means that their distributor has discontinued carrying it or ordering any more copies of it.

+1, I'd also like to see this list, or are you referencing the Coffee with Games list?

And another bit of truth. She is a SALESperson after all.

And another bit of truth. She is a SALESperson after all.

She shouldn't like (if that is what she did), though. I hate it when sales people lie. I am in sales as well, and I NEVER lie. I see others do that, and in the end they suffer nasty returns.

If the store will not bring any more copies, the person should hate states this and not just state that the game was discontinued, which is a lie (at the moment).

Good. That's what the little plumber gets for venturing into 3D.

When I first saw the topic title I was like "Crap! Super Mario Galaxy 2 was canceled?!?" Anyone else? :)
